Enchanted sequins move with laser precision
Sensationally choreographed pyrometrics dance
Mystifying wingless flight of earthbound spirits
Steadily intensifying blurred colors streak by
Blades defy gravity suspended on breaths

Curiosity that remains forever fierce and young
A spirit humble, relentless and strong

and on the bleakest

heart-breaking winter nights

always find
a welcome home
in a freshly warm
mound of dung

What shall I see when I see a picture of you
Frame against rainbow of eternity?
I dream of you ... upon the canvas of my heart ...
Will your eyes melt the snowflakes, do they
Like the sea glisten with the glow of hidden pearls
Are your ears to be the pomegranates of my tongue
And how shall your lips taste to me?
I have dreamt of sweet pineapples, or mangoes
Or some cool sweet thing red with passion
Inflaming the skin
The first otaheite apple of the season.
When you smile, do your lips move like a palm
Slowly yielding to the joy of the wind
And shall dance from sip to sip a hummingbird
Longing to enter the deep throated flower?
I want to see you delicious as happiness
To hold you in the perfect pear of my heart
Where sunrise lingers long, and night is like a song.
My spirit longs to cuddle you and build my nest
Upon the cushion of your brimming breasts.
O but the night has long, long miles to cross
And spirit glees while flesh counts the distant cost.

Every day we  reviewed them in  parade attitude
Along the Snake River in the Tetons’ solitude,
Or at attention on the banks of  the Volga
In  the infinite taiga  -

In neat ranks along river terraces
Warm dark  firs mixed with yellow acer,
All with the wind slowly leaning,
Their branches  across the river-ice signalling

To great endless squadrons of their fellows :     
In spring with  their  full  flowers  - yellows :
An army in a gold and topaz uniform
Ready and waiting for orders  to fall in and conform ;

And in fall with their rich golden foliage
Always polished and  ready for duty with courage. 
In poor soil, in tough climate,  these were heroes
Prepared for all their tomorrows.

Each morning  we watched “Reveille” parade
In the dawn’s early light; and the evening shade
Gave  “taps”  for that  heroic multitude -
The  taiga’s  topaz army,  in  golden solitude.

Deb,I am just coming here quickly to tell you that I think it's really cool of you to post faves. it reminds of when I did my fave contest! will try to see these later. I read what you had said back to me in the other blog. The way you put it, yes, the contest is easy that way. I was thinking you had meant us also to at least catch the essence of the poem we were writing about! And that is a more complex thing!

write what ever comes to mind after reading verse [x] and just make a note on the bottom what word or line helped bring your verse forth! It can also be a mood in general evoked by the other poet in their verse.

I really liked the one by Sidney, particularly the interesting use of vocabulary, acer for maple for example. He never names what I presume are aspens or poplars.

I have a lot of fav poems fewer poets who consistently inspire me Craig, and of the LONG list of fav poems I'm trying to pick shorter ones so I can highlight more poets!

David Smalling is [I believe] L'nass Shango, Shango is the orisha of force and war in the Santeria faith symbolized by the 2 headed ax. ;) [Done my research I have, just as I am Aleezabet to many David is Shango, I'm not sure what the L'nass part meants but L, le, la is usually "the']

I'll say it again,....there is such talent among Poetry Soup, so many are gifted beyond description. Each person is drawn to a different style, a different poem, a different poet, for their own personal reasons. There is something special to draw inspiration from every day, ....the hardest task you have given us is choosing just one to refer to.
