Contest Description
What to Submit?
Please submit an original poem written in blank verse (unrhymed iambic pentameter).
Specific guidelines:
(1) Your poem must be between 12 and 24 lines.
(2) Please be sure EACH line is written in iambic pentameter. When some lines have
9 or 11 syllables--in other words, when the meter varies--the poem might not read
smoothly. NOTE: For my other blank verse contest, some poets entered GREAT
poems WRITTEN IN EVERY STYLE EXCEPT BLANK VERSE--free verse, iambic
tetrameter, trochaic tetrameter, iambic trimeter, RHYMED, etc.
(3) You may enter an old blank verse poem, but not the one you entered in my other
blank verse contest.
Prizes--Glory and praise!
Preparing Your Entry
Submit one copy of your poem online. Format your poem. Please make your entry easy to read — no illustrations or fancy fonts.
English Language
Poems should be in English. Poems translated from other languages are not eligible, unless you wrote both the original poem and the translation.
