What to Submit?
1 original, new poem dated April 12, 2021 or thereafter on the theme of .............A MAJOR WORLD PROBLEM. Villanelle is the only form that will be accepted. Your villanelle must follow the standards set forth in Poetry Soup's Types of Poems. Please be careful to use proper grammar, spelling, and adherence to the villanelle format. Proofread your entry carefully! Other types of poems or poems with poor grammar and spelling will be automatically eliminated. You may use a picture to illustrate the theme of your poem, BUT IT WILL NOT BE CONSIDERED IN THE JUDGING! I would appreciate it if you will write your poem in standard English, and you may choose the title for your poem. Good Luck!!!
I would suggest you study my poem "A Far Cry" to give you an idea what I am looking for in terms of format and subject matter. I'll be looking for originality, simple language (lay aside your thesaurus as big words won't impress me!) and skill in rhyming. I'll be happy to answer questions you may have about the contest by contacting me through Soup Mail; however, I will not give you advice on your entry, period!

Submit one copy of your poem online. Format your poem. Please make your entry easy to read — no illustrations or fancy fonts.
English Language
Poems should be in English. Poems translated from other languages are not eligible, unless you wrote both the original poem and the translation.
A Note to Poetry Contestants
You are welcome to enter this contest, whether or not you won a prize in one of my previous contests.
