I didn't start writing poetry until 2023. I had written a few songs and I guess that's how I got started. I've always wanted to be a writer... because I enjoy reading so much. I consume at least one book per week. That and studying the Bible are my favorite pass times. I was ordained as a Non-denominational Christian minister in 2020.

I also play the ukulele a little, sing a little, love crafting, sewing, cooking, and any kind of art. I've been in childcare and early education for 30 years and have 2 of my own. My husband, Harvey, and I are blessed with a daughter, Rosie, now 18 years old! And our son, Hunter, who lives in Heaven.

Writing Prompts!(part one)

Hello my fellow Souper- duper writers! You know, I often go to the contests on here for inspiration?! Maybe yall do that too? So, I thought, maybe we could use this platform to toss out some writing prompts for each other!

You're welcome to leave ideas in the comments, or, create your own blog with your ideas and prompts. You could include a form to try, as is often the case in the contests, or not. If you decide to use a prompt from someone kind enough to offer some help and ideas, please write a quick note in the notes section of your submission letting everyone know who offered the idea. I think that's fair, don't you? Something simple like we do for contests...we usually write the contest name and sponsor in the notes section.

Of course, it is totally up to you, if you feel it's fair to do that.

Here are a few I've thought of recently, and when(or IF) I can think of more, I'll write a short blog as a part 2 of this one perhaps. Maybe one day you'll see "Prompt Suggestions Part 145!" ;)

Write a poem describing the colors of the Rainbow as if to an unsighted person. Or describing a sunset/rise.

Write a personification poem from the point of view of something in nature... water, fire, a tree, an animal.

Write a poem , the same poem in general, but as if written in different eras. Poems from the 1500s would sound different than poems of today or the 1950s don't you think? This might require some research into the speech patterns and ways of writing in certain time periods. Different words have become obsolete now. How have feelings changed, or have they?

Well, I hope someone is inspired by one of these prompts, or maybe yours if you leave one in the comments or in another blog! I know I'll be interested in what you all come up with, and grateful the next time I'm stuck for ideas! Good luck and God bless your endeavors! Xoxo Your friend, Crystol

I've participated in so many contests; I can't remember all the prompts. I think this might be one I've already seen, possibly multiple times, but what popped into my head was to write a letter to someone: teacher, parent, sibling, lover, object (which would be a mix of the personification idea), whatever. That different era idea is fascinating, but it would be pretty challenging for me to get it right. How about writing in the language of the year 2124.

That last idea was done a long time ago but I think the sponsor had us write using slang or jargon from a certain regions, which is too difficult for those not in America. It's a good idea for eras also and will require research but that is easy to find. I don't know if I could do the first one very well but the middle one has been used before. It's a fun one. Somebody I think did owls or eagles. Or animal of our choice. I had people personify emotions a while back. Yes. That one is very popular . Another popular idea has been to give a number of words for poets to use in their poems. Giving topics is very common. I love when Ink Empress, Constance, and many others do inspiring ones.

Yes. It is nice to see them again. New people will never have that opportunity otherwise

Yess, as i was saying, writing, to Tom, I'll probably run into this a lot! But it doesn't hurt anything to rehash old, or already done, ideas I guess. Thanks for your feedback! Xo

This is exactly the sort of thing I recommended in a blog ... instead of contests. But I guess the two can work side by side together. Mark has tried flash poetry with limited success. Most are addicted to contests, probably because it's comfy. I like the rainbow and sunset prompt you offer

Addiction has such a negative connotation to it...I think rather people, like me, enjoy the variety of challenges, ideas, and inspiration the contests offer... plus the connection to other poets.

And I've participated in Mark's flash poetry! I love that idea! He does a great job with it!

Yess, I guess I'll run into this sort of thing a lot lol... being relatively new to the scene! I'll think of a neat idea, only too discover many have already been there, done that! Oh well! Xo

Prompt: "Brian [pick a name] knew exactly what he was looking for...his confidence" Let's see where this leads, CW. ;o))
