I didn't start writing poetry until 2023. I had written a few songs and I guess that's how I got started. I've always wanted to be a writer... because I enjoy reading so much. I consume at least one book per week. That and studying the Bible are my favorite pass times. I was ordained as a Non-denominational Christian minister in 2020.

I also play the ukulele a little, sing a little, love crafting, sewing, cooking, and any kind of art. I've been in childcare and early education for 30 years and have 2 of my own. My husband, Harvey, and I are blessed with a daughter, Rosie, now 18 years old! And our son, Hunter, who lives in Heaven.

Music and Poetry

Blog Posted by Crystol Woods: 7/29/2024 9:12:00 AM

My fellow poets and PS neighbors,

Some of the earliest poetry we hear is in the form of music. For song lyrics are a form of poetry, right? I started out as a song writer and branched off into other forms later on.

I wanted to share my favorite song lyrics and ask for you to do the same! If you and your life had a theme song, what would it be? Include a link to the song or just the lyrics, or just the title and artist of you prefer. Here is mine...

The Story, by Brandi Carlisle

All of these lines across my face Tell you the story of who I am So many stories of where I've been And how I got to where I am But these stories don't mean anything When you've got no one to tell them to It's true, I was made for you

I climbed across the mountain tops Swam all across the ocean blue I crossed all the lines and I broke all the rules But baby, I broke them all for you Oh, because even when I was flat broke You made me feel like a million bucks You do, and I was made for you

You see the smile that's on my mouth It's hiding the words that don't come out And all of my friends who think that I'm blessed They don't know my head is a mess No, they don't know who I really am And they don't know what I've been through like you do And I was made for you

All of these lines across my face Tell you the story of who I am So many stories of where I've been And how I got to where I am Oh, but these stories don't mean anything When you've got no one to tell them to It's true, I was made for you Oh, yeah, well it's true that I was made for you

Anxiously awaiting your theme songs! Xoxo Your neighbor, Crystol

It's beautiful, the connection between music and poetry. The best song to fit me and my life would be this one: Pocketful Of Sunshine by Natasha Bedingfield. :) ** Do what you want, but you're never gonna break me. Sticks and stones are never gonna shake me. I got a pocket, got a pocketful of sunshine. **

How about You’re the Reason Our Kids Are Ugly by Loretta Lyn and Conway Twitty? I can sing it, just can’t say it! Or how about I’d Rather Have a Bottle in Front of Me (Than a Frontal Lobotomy) by Randy Hanzlick.

Wouldn't it be fun, since we are all writers or aspiring writers/poets, to write our own theme songs? Not sure I'm up to the task but it's something to think about! I'm so happy with the response here and enjoyed hearing about your theme songs. Thanks yall! Xoxo

Thanks to you, Crystol. Enjoyable blog. Anyone who plays the ukulele and has a goldfish named Sushi is a kindred spirit in my book.

If life is worth living (life is worth living) It's got to be run (it's got been run) As a means of giving (as a means of giving) Not as a race to be won Many roads will run through many lives But somehow we'll arrive Many roads will run through many lives But somewhere we'll survive Love this xo

Oh how beautiful! I love these lyrics! My favorite stanza...And I could cry for the time I've wasted But that's a waste of time and tears, And I know just what I'd change If went back in time somehow But there's nothing I can do about it now Ty for sharing! Xo

This is a super fun blog. I would expect one like this to get lots of responses. I have way too many songs to even narrow things down to just one. I will have to think on it. In my younger days, I fancied myself "Green-eyed Lady'". Other times it was "Working 9 to 5" and "living for the weekend" (is that even a song title?) but my older self is nostalgic and likes the song "Time in a Bottle"
