Crystol Woods Biography

I didn't start writing poetry until 2023. I had written a few songs and I guess that's how I got started. I've always wanted to be a writer... because I enjoy reading so much. I consume at least one book per week. That and studying the Bible are my favorite pass times. I was ordained as a Non-denominational Christian minister in 2020.

I also play the ukulele a little, sing a little, love crafting, sewing, cooking, and any kind of art. I've been in childcare and early education for 30 years and have 2 of my own. My husband, Harvey, and I are blessed with a daughter, Rosie, now 18 years old! And our son, Hunter, who lives in Heaven.

I've always enjoyed watercolor painting and have done a few commissions for friends. What I enjoy most about it is the thought process that goes into it before the execution as one can't underdraw (pencil, etc) when using watercolor. My daughter has shown me up with her skill in the various graphic arts, so now we try different mediums in which to compare notes. As far as musical talent is concerned: My daughter (then aged 4) told me: "Mummy, don't!" when I was singing a lullaby to her brother. She has an ear for music which I sadly lack. Some things just can't be taught, I guess -- I will leave it up to those who can ... I like your charcoal sketch, Crystol - thanks for sharing :)

I'm with you about singing not really something that can be taught... if there's already some talent, it can be perfected with practise etc... my whole family is musical in some way but I'm afraid all the talent ran out when it came to my turn lol. I have to work hard for every bit of musicality I try. My sister and brother both have voices that are unbelievable! Ty for sharing! Xoxo

Thank you Suzette! I've never gotten the hang of watercolors but love love love how it works so well for nature paintings etc... I'd love to see your work! My daughter is majoring in graphic arts! She's very good!

Dabble in photography supporting my poetic themes. I also love prose exploration finding ways to more perfectly express myself.

Hi Crystol! I’m a visual artist also, painting and sculpture, now exploring print making. I have combined poetry and art in the past and plan to do more.

Hi Crystol! Great artwork! Since 1999 I’ve had a website up on the net about the history of amusement parks and rides. It’s called themagiceye and since 2007 has been hosted by Joyland Books. I tend to write about my own memories of parks on there but have had some great input from contributors willing to share their extensive knowledge (people like John Wardley who designed Nemesis rollercoaster at Alton Towers, Phil Gould an ex editor of OK magazine who writes about his extensive knowledge of parks and Nick Laister who owns Joyland Books and Fairytale Farm in the Cotswolds). It’s not had an update for a few years but will be getting one soon as it turns 25 in November. Cheers - Gary themagiceye.co.uk

I sure wish I understood music so that I could put my lyrical poetry to music. I took guitar in my 40's and practiced daily for two years. I picked it up a few years ago and could hardly remember any chords or strums I used to know so well. I cannot play by ear, so the times I thought up melodies for a few songs, I had to keep plucking strings until I found which note I was playing. It's incredible how easily we forget things learned in our older age. If only I had taken guitar in my childhood. I really wish I could play it easily and remember all the chords. You are lucky to have so many talents. I can't draw worth a darn.

I found it difficult to remember chords as well! I stated writing each one over my lyrics so now I have to use my cheat sheets to play lol. But it works! Some of us are jack of all trades but masters of none... and some, like you dear Andrea, are masters of their craft! You are a poet,a writer... and you've mastered that art for sure! Ty for sharing! Hi Crystal. It's interesting to hear about all your creative outlets - quite a few! I sometimes draw or paint. My son is a birdwatcher, so I wrote a bunch of poems called "Dan's Birds..." which have drawings. I like music and listen a lot, but don't know much about it. I'm thinking about learning about it so I can figure out how to put my rhymes to music, and maybe even write songs. I might have started too late (I'm 65).

Chantelle... beautiful name! I tried woodburning for home made Christmas gifts last year! It was awesome to see the permanence of that art being carved into wood. It's a gorgeous craft. Keep exploring your talents in art and blessings to you! Xoxo
