Lewis Raynes Biography

Hi, thoughtful poetry and confronting art..... and mathematics, are my interest. Have been writing, poetrying and painting for about 20 years and mathematicing for about 25. Of course we all have thoughts about random stuff often enough, I like putting those random thoughts into verse making sense or putting them on canvas to be a provoker. I prefer all styles of poetry depending upon my mood.

By the way, unless i state that a poem actually occurred to me, then they are all made up, fiction, whimsical, not true events, they are not biographies and only touch on uncomfortable topics to make the reader question things. I believe poetry has the ability to make us question our own morals intimately, like how the bard made us question suicide in Romeo and Juliet.

p.s. the bard didn't do suicide.

What I write in poetry does not necessarily reflect the opinions or morals of the NSW department of education...

Why did you begin writing poetry

When I was just a little girl I watched my older sister die under the wheels of a truck .I can still hear the screaming. I stopped talking. Grandma gave me a journal and pen and said write your pain ..

I had this awesome English teacher in 5th grade. We had to write a poetry book for the end of the year project and they would be showcased at the last day function with all students and parents. So I wrote my first poem when I was 11 years old. I started keeping a journal and continued to write daily adding poems here and there. (Mostly about crushes on boys lol) As I moved in my sophomore year in High School when I met my husband, my poetry flourished and became a passion I had to hold onto. I started keeping a binder of poems printed out and collected about 100 from 18 years. I came here the end of September 2015 (almost a year ago) and have been writing daily since. Thanks Lewis :)-luloo

aww thanks for the comment below LuLoo - if I can make people smile with my funny poems then that is the best thing to me - no matter what is happening in my life and the last few years have been the most challenging of my life, I can write funny at a drop of a hat :-) hugs Jan xx

oh my, I didn't answer the question above! lol I began yes because of a school project but it turned into a wonderful beginning of how I can express myself. Being a young lady can be difficult and I had so much to express inside. As I got older my hubby influenced my writing. Then my faith played a part in it too. :) Thanks again Lewis for this wonderful blog :)-luloo

I wrote my first poem called 'Splendid Isolation' when my hubby was in theatre for surgery f cancer in November 2013. I then wrote a few more poems (mainly funny ones) and posted them on a friends facebook page - on the advice of a friend who saw my poems I joined soup in Feb 2014. I know if I hadn't started writing it would have been incredibly difficult to face the challenges of the last 3 years :-) hugs Jan xx

Jan, your poetry shines from all your experiences. I am so happy you found an outlet for everything you had been through. You have a true gift! :)-luloo

I agree, poetry is a huge outlet which forces us to focus on specific intimate honest feelings, hugs Lewis

I started writing poetry as a teenager, about fifty (scary!) years ago. In those days I was heavily influenced by writers such as Spike Milligan, Edward Lear, et al. Most of that work no longer exists; probably for the best. Serious poetry is a much more recent venture. Barry
