Lewis Raynes Biography

Hi, thoughtful poetry and confronting art..... and mathematics, are my interest. Have been writing, poetrying and painting for about 20 years and mathematicing for about 25. Of course we all have thoughts about random stuff often enough, I like putting those random thoughts into verse making sense or putting them on canvas to be a provoker. I prefer all styles of poetry depending upon my mood.

By the way, unless i state that a poem actually occurred to me, then they are all made up, fiction, whimsical, not true events, they are not biographies and only touch on uncomfortable topics to make the reader question things. I believe poetry has the ability to make us question our own morals intimately, like how the bard made us question suicide in Romeo and Juliet.

p.s. the bard didn't do suicide.

What I write in poetry does not necessarily reflect the opinions or morals of the NSW department of education...

You should ONLY write NEW poems for contests unless TOLD you may use old Writes, not the other way around, there is absolutely NO SKILL involved in submitting an old write into a new contest...lazy,lazy,lazy....( please note this comment was cut and pasted from a previous blog, 2014)

I disagree with you because many poets have old poems that are NEVER seen by newbies and/or have not won contests either. You can read things the way you want to read things, Ian. I saw many poets doing this way when I came here after 2009, and nobody from TPS has said it was wrong. So if a judge does not like it, they should tell us so. Here is the definition of Original, and I think Judges need to add NEW to their rules if they do not agree with the definition: Original: created directly and personally by a particular artist; not a copy or imitation (there are other definitions but none of them say "new")

Lewis, when I first came here , I was very confused when we could use old poems or not. For me it's interpretation. If the contest sponsor says original work, that for me means it's the author's work, whether old or new, so unless the sponsor says "must be new poem" I will either give an old one or write a new one if I do not already have that topic written about. It's as simple as that. When I first came here, I had tons of poems but i just waited for contests to come along that I could post them in. now years later, I have to write new poems 99% of the time if the judge is specifying new ones. I too love the contests as inspiration for my writing.

I use the contests as one of a number of prompts for poems. I would usually use new poems for a contest unless the sponsor allows old poems.

I use the contest prompts to inspire me to write - I may use the theme but not actually enter them in a particular contest. If an old poem fits then I can see no problem in entering into a contest. Many of our poems barely see the light of day once they have disappeared off the newly posted poems page!:-) hugs Jan xx

If they cut the ten poems a day to five it would give more exposure to many more poems that just get swamped by the sheer volume. I may read one of the ten posted but if it doesn't grab my attention I don't bother reading 9 more and probably miss out on some gems but that's life, i only have so much time and like to try and read some new poets:-) hugs jan xx

Which is one of the low points of this site Jan. There should be a way to keep older poems from disappearing at the end of the line. There is some really good stuff back there on page 10,11 or 12 etc.

Such poems Lewis are always welcome in my contests.
