Lewis Raynes Biography

Hi, thoughtful poetry and confronting art..... and mathematics, are my interest. Have been writing, poetrying and painting for about 20 years and mathematicing for about 25. Of course we all have thoughts about random stuff often enough, I like putting those random thoughts into verse making sense or putting them on canvas to be a provoker. I prefer all styles of poetry depending upon my mood.

By the way, unless i state that a poem actually occurred to me, then they are all made up, fiction, whimsical, not true events, they are not biographies and only touch on uncomfortable topics to make the reader question things. I believe poetry has the ability to make us question our own morals intimately, like how the bard made us question suicide in Romeo and Juliet.

Hi Soupers, the Depression contest was a tough one to judge, so many great poems, and so many really confronting poems. Congratulations to every poet entering, they were all great reads.

I had chosen the maximum 10 allowed, but then found out, after it'd finalised, that three had already placed in other contests, which was against the rule for this contest.

Help needed:

a. Is there any way of determining whether a poem has been in any contest without finding out who the author is before finalising? I judge cold and trust folks read all instructions or at least give an explanation at the bottom of the poem.

b. Is there any way of simply replacing the poems to be removed after finalisation rather than deleting and then going through the entire list again?

(continued) I'm ashamed that I missed this one and took that chance away from someone else, and I hope folks will forgive me ... I try to be very conscientious about things and do my best to put thoughtfulness and kindness above all else, but again, that human thing is bound to get us all at times, and it got ME this time. Hi gregory, ur poem is a fantastic poem and really on point for this contest, i agree with Andrea, i should have made the rule bigger and more prominent, so ... soz from me, i bear most of the blame. really really good entries though

I agree with Andrea ... I'm usually very intent on reading the rules of contests and do so multiple times before entering, and I personally did not see it anywhere that previous contest entries were not allowed, (and that's a rare rule as well, which most folks wouldn't be looking for). That said, we are all human, I more so than most, and I miss stuff on a daily basis in all kinds of situations, so I sincerely apologize ... it is a pet peeve of mine to use a slot in a contest incorrectly that someone ELSE could have used, because that's taking opportunity away from other good folks, and those things weigh heavy on my spirit ... I have one suggestion about rules, Lewis. Many judges do not mind if old poems are used. If a judge wants to be sure only new poems are used, I think it's a good idea to state it at the front of the contest: NEW POEMS ONLY. When I see this, right away, I note this and I put it on my "to do" list for new poems. I went to your current contest and saw the rule is at the bottom of the contest page under an advertisement, but it's in bold print, so hopefully nobody will miss it the way I did in this contest you just finalized. Congrats to your winners. There really is no way to know about the entries until all is said and done.

by the way, I bet there were more than three of us. You only checked afterwards with the winners. Your contest filled so fast, I just bet there were others who had entered older poems!

Thanks, Lewis. I hate when I mess up in people's contests. Happens at least once a month, it seems!! I think I am going blind!!!

Hi Andrea, yep, I thought the same, i also miss lots of info, i think ur idea is the best, next contest i might do that. I didn't mean to "catch" people out though, and ur poem was a clear winner otherwise, wonderful write. hope all is cool :)

Lewis, first, thank you for a great contest, although I did not place, I enjoyed writing my poem and congrats to your winners. Sometimes you can re-open the contest and remove the placement of poems but I do believe there is a time limit on how long you can do that, what you do is go to the contest page and where it says judged click no and you also have to click the locked poems thing. If that does not work there is little you can do. We trust people to be honest in our contests and it is very disturbing when they are not. Best of luck with your new contest.

Yep Constance, I was a little perplexed how to solve the issue once I'd finalised it, i ended up doing these steps but had trouble putting new poems in to replace, it mixed the entire order up, it took ages to redistribute. any old how,all's well that ends well, every single poem entered was a good read, it was a little tough to discriminate them out. :)
