Lewis Raynes Biography

Hi, thoughtful poetry and confronting art..... and mathematics, are my interest. Have been writing, poetrying and painting for about 20 years and mathematicing for about 25. Of course we all have thoughts about random stuff often enough, I like putting those random thoughts into verse making sense or putting them on canvas to be a provoker. I prefer all styles of poetry depending upon my mood.

By the way, unless i state that a poem actually occurred to me, then they are all made up, fiction, whimsical, not true events, they are not biographies and only touch on uncomfortable topics to make the reader question things. I believe poetry has the ability to make us question our own morals intimately, like how the bard made us question suicide in Romeo and Juliet.

p.s. the bard didn't do suicide.

What I write in poetry does not necessarily reflect the opinions or morals of the NSW department of education...

Are you a-typical poet

Typical me..lets see, nope I'm about as typical as a sun setting in the east..once hitch-hiked across the USA for a year just to do it, but then again that was 45 years ago

We are all very different, and our poetry reflects this as well, so we are not stereotypical at all!

I didn't know there were "typical" poets. I am a physicist. I am not quiet and introspective, but a raging extrovert who loves throwing parties. I rock climb. Nothing about that screams "poet" to me. Oh, and I'm not sitting at midnight by candle light pondering the world- I go to bed at 10pm because I need 8+ hours of sleep.

I'm just typical but I often listen to my stereo when writing poetry, so what does that make me?

It would be naive to not think there is a stereotypical poet yet it is more naive to believe the same. The stereotypes are Hollywood born like much else we are not able to conjure by ourselves. One thing I think is more true than not is that the average poet tends to be an idealist, probably more defensive and insecure but a poets greatest asset is sensitivity which creates the other traits; but also makes them more tuned to those small emotions and visualizations that many never notice. Funny thing is that many will not admit they write poetry, especially guys, because it's a "girly" thing. Well, don't know about telling' guys, but I found in college that the gals LOVE it--so who cares.

There is no such thing as a stereotypical poet (?!) Why in the world would you think poets are quiet? Your blog made me chuckle! Smoking, drinking? Cars and scars? How does anything you listed show that you are an atypical poet? The only things poets mostly share is an awareness of the world and people around them, a sort of hyper-sensitivity and a need to express ourselves through our writing.

And for as long as I can remember, a poet was someone who sat beside a single light, maybe a candle at night and thought deep and hard about the world, and didn't have time to be the one in the world.... writing all they saw and knew.

I've always thought poets to be very reflective to the point of neurotic, and people who focused on everything going on around them, people who have time o sit and be creative.... I'm not particularly slow, but the more I learn about poetry from this site, it seems a lot of folks also live a diverse "busy" life.

I do know of one atypical poet. He was a serial killer. Check this out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jack_Unterweger

Well, I ride a wheelchair, stutter and have Tourette's Syndrome as well as Asperger's Syndrome. I am a sight to see LOL But all that is not typical something poetical, nor are your tats, your profession the scars, and the non-shaven part :D

I am quite the chatterbox, but if it's worth reading? My friends think so, but hey! They are my friends. In all seriousness, yes, I take poetry serious and I am working hard to improve myself.
