I took my Bloodhound to the vet Monday for an eye operation. With Bloodhounds they get a condition where their lower eyelid rolls and the eyelash rubs their eyes and is irritating. Sherlock is the world’s best natured dog and he loves Doctor Bart and Doctor Bart loves him. Here in Northern Ohio Bloodhounds are few and far between so he gets special treatment from Doctor Bart. I told Doctor Bart that I had full confidence in him I just wanted assurance that Sherlock wouldn’t look like Joan Rivers when he was done. He promised. Anyway, I took him into the docs at 8am and then picked him up at 4pm. He has to wear one of the cones that they make dogs wear. He looks like the olive in the bottom of the Martini glass. He looks ridiculous and he knows it, although he can get any NFL game that he wants to watch. So, like any kid, when he hurts he gets clingy. We want him to sleep in bed with us in case he needs something, we’ll be right there. I don’t know how closely you’ve ever looked at a Bloodhound but they are not small dogs, Sherlock weighs 92 lbs. and has very long legs. Very long, spindly, pointy legs. He always wants to touch both of us when he sleeps with us, usually one paw on each of us but just a light touch so he knows where we are. The last two nights he has needed to sleep on top of me to the great delight of my wife. She thinks that it’s adorable that I’m Sherlock’s mommy. I let him outside to take care of business and he got caught up in the bushes since he can’t push through them with his cone so I have to go get him now. It’s OK though, I think I can get free HBO if I get him close enough to the TV.
