Breakfast

I’m going to breakfast with my wife this morning. I’m not sure why that seems so exotic to me. We’ve been watching a lot of old movies over the holiday and we were laughing when Cary Grant’s alarm clock went off at 7:30AM to start his day. He then went and woke up his kids to get them started on their way. Then the maid brought him his orange juice and coffee. He got a leisurely shower and shave while Myrna Loy did the same and then when the whole family was dressed they all sat together and had breakfast and Cary read the paper. At our house the alarm goes off at 5:30AM I’m out walking the dog by 5:50 and home by 6:30 in the soup until 6:50 and then shower, dress and leave for work by 7:15. So I think that going to breakfast with my wife is a harkening back to that time when Cary and Myrna could share news and repartee with their orange juice and eggs. I suspect such a time never existed by the way so maybe that adds to the wonder of it all. Anyway, she is upstairs right now making herself beautiful and that’s fine with me. Anticipation is 90% of the fun. The diner that we go to is close to our house and all of the people who work there know us. The young women who waitress there will tell us about their school plans or show us pictures of there new baby. They will bring extra hollandaise sauce for my wife and an extra pancake for me because we are regulars. We go there every Sunday after church. A Friday breakfast will not go unannounced by the wait staff. It’s nice being a regular. They know to seat me with my back to the wall so I can keep an eye on the room. (Left over from my wild west gunfighter days when I was six.)
This is a PS. We just got back from breakfast and the manager at the restaurant gave us free breakfasts because she loves us. Man I love being a regular.
