Krish Radhakrishna

I am a doctor based in UK and have served the National health service for nearly 30 years. Poetry has been my interest from a very early age and read poetry in Hindi, Tamil and English.
My all time favourite poem is the Elegy in a country churchyard by Thomas Gray, I love Robert Frost, Browning, Wordsworth and Tennyson. I have made a pilgrimage to their birthplace.My favourite writers include Somerset Maugham and Dapne Du Maurier.
I love reading poetry but like great poems that are not lost in extreme verbosity, a tendency for many who employ free verse. Christina Rossetti is a great example of a poet who conveyed beautiful thoughts in simple language.
' Home they brought her Warrior dead' is a good example of a brilliant poem written with the simplest of words.

I look forward to reading the brilliant works of the many poets on Poetry Soup.

RIP mother

My mother passed away on 22nd of January in my sister's place. She died in her sleep on a Friday the way she always wished it should be!

She had a blood clot in her coronary artery that was successfully removed on Dec 29th last year and she was making good progress. Spoke to her a day before she passed and she was very positive and said she would join me in April in England where she has indefinite leave to stay.

She was 89 and 9 months but a very positive and cheerful force in my life that no one can ever fill.I am presently in India and did her last rites as per Hindu customs as she wished.

I may not be so active on poetry pages during the next few weeks. I hope to be back when I am recovered from this grief.

God bless and please Pray for my mother's soul to rest in peace.

I am so sorry to hear this Krish. I lost my father 29 years ago, but I can only imagine what it’s like to lose a mother. Just from this piece you wrote here, I can tell you were a good son to her.

I am so sorry for your loss. There are no words that can take away the pain and sorrow from losing a mother. My deepest sympathy for you and your family. My mother passed two weeks ago (1/21/21) as well as my brother (1/17/21) and my niece (1/16/21) and I can barely compose a poem.

This is heartbreaking. My heartfelt condolences. She was a wonderful person that's why she met a painless death. Best way you can console yourself is by telling yourself she did not suffer as many old people do. May God give you strength to tide over this grief. Take care Rama

Your mother is now gone to a beautiful place, so I do not feel a need to pray for good souls who have passed on, but I pray for you, Krish, for consolation in your grief. My mother too is nearly 89 and I know it's a scary time for her with all that is happening in the world.
