I am a doctor based in UK and have served the National health service for nearly 30 years. Poetry has been my interest from a very early age and read poetry in Hindi, Tamil and English. 
My all time favourite poem is the Elegy in a country churchyard by Thomas Gray, I love Robert Frost, Browning, Wordsworth and Tennyson. I have made a pilgrimage to their birthplace.My favourite writers include Somerset Maugham and Dapne Du Maurier.
I love reading poetry but like great poems that are not lost in extreme verbosity, a tendency for many who employ free verse. Christina Rossetti is a great example of a poet who conveyed beautiful thoughts in simple language. 
' Home they brought her Warrior dead' is a good example of a brilliant poem written with the simplest of words.

I look forward to reading the brilliant works of the many poets on Poetry Soup.

This little book of Poetry by Malabika Choudhury, well known to us as Mala, is a delightful collection of story poems of Tagore. Each poem is no longer than two or three pages long! This is the translated version of the 17 of the poems of Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore revered in the world of english literature was awarded the Nobel Price for his work Gitanjali - Song offerings. His work has been praised by WB Yeats who wrote the foreward. His enormous gift of sensitive, heart touching poems that tell of human travails, have a beauty due to the simplicity of thought! Mala in her excellent translation has preserved this inner glow and has opened a new window for the western world to peep into the divine beauty of Tagore's work! I read the poems late into the night, and read it again on my train to Edinburgh! I cannot read Bengali, and many of Tagore's work are in that language. Gitanjali was translated into English by Tagore himself. Now Mala has brought us 17 of his lovely poems.
Well done to Mala on this beautiful compilation.

Dear Krish, I have to say sorry that I didn't notice your beautiful blog, until now, introducing my collection of translated poems. Thank you so much for reading these poems - late into night, and on the train. Those are the precious times, I am sure, many will agree, when we are most focused, and enjoy lovely literature. I don't have many words to express my gratitude to you! Your support and inspiration are so much appreciated, Dear Poet-Friend. You are very special! Congratulations Mala on your work ! Tagore the first nobel prize winner of India for Literature has been a highly acclaimed poet of all time. Translating his poems from Bengali to English is an onerous task. Mala, you have done it and done beautifully, I am sure, as I know you and your beautiful poetry. Thank you, Dear Valsa. I am sure there are translations of Tagore in Tamil - as there are in many other Indian languages, and some European languages. From my childhood, Tagore had a lasting impression on me - I read his works again and again. That's why I still write poems and prose in Bengali, as I do in English.
