This little book of Poetry by Malabika Choudhury, well known to us as Mala, is a delightful collection of story poems of Tagore. Each poem is no longer than two or three pages long! This is the translated version of the 17 of the poems of Rabindranath Tagore. Tagore revered in the world of english literature was awarded the Nobel Price for his work Gitanjali - Song offerings. His work has been praised by WB Yeats who wrote the foreward. His enormous gift of sensitive, heart touching poems that tell of human travails, have a beauty due to the simplicity of thought! Mala in her excellent translation has preserved this inner glow and has opened a new window for the western world to peep into the divine beauty of Tagore's work! I read the poems late into the night, and read it again on my train to Edinburgh! I cannot read Bengali, and many of Tagore's work are in that language. Gitanjali was translated into English by Tagore himself. Now Mala has brought us 17 of his lovely poems.
