Krish Radhakrishna

I am a doctor based in UK and have served the National health service for nearly 30 years. Poetry has been my interest from a very early age and read poetry in Hindi, Tamil and English.
My all time favourite poem is the Elegy in a country churchyard by Thomas Gray, I love Robert Frost, Browning, Wordsworth and Tennyson. I have made a pilgrimage to their birthplace.My favourite writers include Somerset Maugham and Dapne Du Maurier.
I love reading poetry but like great poems that are not lost in extreme verbosity, a tendency for many who employ free verse. Christina Rossetti is a great example of a poet who conveyed beautiful thoughts in simple language.
' Home they brought her Warrior dead' is a good example of a brilliant poem written with the simplest of words.

I look forward to reading the brilliant works of the many poets on Poetry Soup.

Hacking into poetry soup accounts

Someone had hacked into my Poetry soup account and also into my facebook account and tried to get some money out of my friends in India. They knew something was wrong and got in touch with me in UK. Just to warn you. Be careful about new comers to poetry soup who are signing in and following us. some of them have not written any poetry. I found one today that links to another poetry website in India. I have to block this person. I would ask Poetry Soup mangement to make sure this site is more secure. anyone who signs in should go through some formal identification, otherwise there could be hackers on this site who make life difficult!!

I have not had any luck with PS team responding to anything I have asked of them. Hope they respond to this blog.

I have received one!! This person has hacked in to the system! I am unable to delete or block!! TPS, please do something and block this person!!

I just received this message in my comments section of one of my poems: "Greetings. My Name Is Cecilia Vallejo. How are you and your family doing today, I hope all is well with you? First, I will have to say. I am very happy to meet you here and I will be willing to open my heart to know more about you. contact me on my email address: ceciliavallejo487@gmail.com Knowing one another does not take years, it just takes seconds to meet someone and be good friends, that is why I sent you a message in the first place, because your profile caught my attention and I will like to know more about you and be friends with you okay thanks, and God bless you." There was no name or avatar next to this.

Your experience is a true bummer Krish! Thank you for the heads-up! Not only do these unethical and morally bankrupt people try to steal work that is not theirs but try to garner money - that is not theirs! Blessings to you. So sadyou had to go through this....

Thanks Sam! There are such criminals out there! This guy seemed to know quite a bit about me, but my friends dealt with him well. This is ever present danger of the internet! We must all be careful.

PoetrySoup is about as secure as you can get. We must remember to be secure with our usernames and passwords so we can minimize the possibility of someone accessing our accounts. Do not write passwords on paper. Fortunately, we have never had a breach of our data in the 15 years PoetrySoup has been around.

Facebook is not connected to individual websites like PoetrySoup.

Additionally, be very careful about accessing any website from a computer used by people whom you do not know.

Remember, when individual accounts are accessed by an infiltrator, they acquired that login information from another source.

That is reassuring. The hacker seemed to know about anthology of poems and had an image of me from my facebook account. I know PS has facebook page too. Is there a possible breech from there? I have changed all my passwords and deleted some accounts. Any on line site will have hackers. Please check on people who have account without any poems.

Krish, so sorry this has happened to you, hope you can get it fixed. I had my Facebook account hacked once and they put my profile on a site where men were looking for sex and within hours I had hundreds of friend requests from all over the world, and getting more by the second, that was a mess to fix. And once my email was hacked. I got all that sorted out also. But, I have not been hacked here on PS, although I have had poetry stolen, that is the risk we take posting our poems on the internet. I do not trust anyone with no poems posted and it should not be allowed, no poem, no account should be the rule. And even more disturbing, I have received soupmails from people not even soup members, peace _Constance

I do have an on line pal who doesnt write poetry but logged on to comment on a poem i had written, bt yeah i too have received odd soup mails offering various services and another spam wanting cash, sadly this is the way of life these days bust be scam and spam aware xx

Hi Constance I can see how scary that can be!! FB is a disaster and I am gradually getting out of it. You are right about poem submission before membership rights. There one person who follows me from India and when I checked it is a poetry web site. People can easily steal poems too. Yes TPS should reassure us and develop better security for this site.

Appreciate the admonishment, Krish and Joseph, whereto, my son has added safety programs for the former types of situation to be less of a concern, albeit, the latter I had addressed in my blog (There were two entries that did not belong in the contest and were appropriately ignored.) I anticipated TPS's predicament in such a scenario. Instead, mayhaps we may request TPS for their removal?

Point to ponder. While empaneling, we share our email address for verification. Don’t know about digging deeper, many like me prefer anonymity, not only here but on other forums as well.

Thanks Seeker. You can still remain anonymous to others but you will have some ID with TPS who can keep it safe. That way we know who is trolling us, should something happen.

Thanks for sounding the alarm Krish, sorry this happened to you, PS really needs to improve the security on this site, It is time we demand a more secure site. Once I asked them if they could stop people who constantly enter irrelevant poems in contests, They said they could do nothing about it. I was stunned.

That's worrying krish, good job your friends thought something was amiss, thinking it might have been you doesn't bear thinking about they might have parted with large sums thinking they were acting in good faith. Thanks for bringing this to our attention. We must be forever vigilant because the internet can be a dangerous place and you could be a victim of some scam. Might be a good idea to change passwords on a regular basis like you do with email accounts. Tom

Thanks Andrea. That feature has been there for sometime. PS should check id before letting people join. There are many who just sign in and walk around the site.
