Pearl Harbor

Blog Posted by Gary Jones: 4/10/2008 4:57:00 PM
Stand atop the mast, and gaze upon the harbor
It has seen many come and go on its water
First, men in tall ships of wood and wind filled arbor
Then came the dreadnaughts, along the piers they gather

Look to the west and Ford Island stands there alone
Along her shore, lie the bodies of ships and men
The Arizona a coffin stripped to the bone
Upon its decks the crew will never tread again

Gazing back into the drink, the sea creatures play
The jellyfish and stingrays are abundant there
The occasional hammerhead often will stray
Small boats, tracking on various courses they steer

A bustling harbor of the living and long dead
Pearl and its memories fill my proud old grey head

I have never visited a more humbling place than the Arizona Memorial. THis is a beautiful tribute...and so acurate. Here we stand sixty seven years later, and so many don't really know what happened there or why, it is works like these that will keep it alive long after the veterans have passed. Beautiful work Gary. Peace!!

I had a realtive who survived Pearl Harbour in the Second World War. The only time he talked about it was when he had a few drinks in him. He passed away 18 years ago. He was a wonderful man. Thank you Gar, for responding to my blog. Your words of wisdom have enlightened me. Love, lainie

We are only getting the true story now aftwr all involved have passed away. One of the most tragic moments in American history and Washington was aware of the pending attack in October. This has made me question 9-11. As a Navy reservist we were briefed in 1994 that the world trade center would be the first target for terrorists and the Sears Tower in Chicago would be the second. It might be possible that the downed plane in western Pa was actually headed for Chicago. We will never know. Vince
