Melancholy Moon - Greg Barden

Blog Posted by Craig Cornish: 6/23/2024 10:22:00 AM

Just giving a shout-out and congrats to Greg Barden for his first publication called "Melancholy Moon". (Available on Amazon in all forms) Just ordered my own copy. Greg is a very gifted poet I am honored to have read and learned from - he has a unique traditional style with a pen-stroke all his own. Check it out!

Craig, you highlight one of the most talented writers in Poetry Soup. Greg is a humble poet who doesn’t create his art to gain attention. He writes because he has the desire, the need to express what’s in his mind and heart as any true poet is drawn to do. Greg’s ability to do this more eloquently than most on the site has always been appreciated by me. The standout is ‘Tell the Night to Hold Me.’ I suggested he include it in his book, and Greg, always one to please others, agreed. We’ve been friends a long time and if anyone thinks his lack of spending more time interacting on PS is a self-affliction, they don’t comprehend the most valuable trait of a real poet… writing to suit oneself.

This means so much to me, Lin, as do the comments you left on FB. You have been a constant source of inspiration and support for me over the years and I’m honored to call you friend. Your poetry is exceptional, your wit and insight are superb, and I appreciate your kind words now and during my time at Poetry Soup. Blessings and thanks to you always, My Friend! <3

He’s written so many that I’ve saved and I’ve read some on Facebook that have not been seen on PS. Good news to look forward to that he’ll be returning.

Well said Lin, and as you so aptly referenced " tell the night to hold me for I've no more left to say please remand what's just as I turn to dust and forget about you ... every day ... 'til I'm swept with wind, away" Letting the spirit flow...

Thank you, my very good friend - and many thanks to all who have commented. We have not always seen eye-to-eye, Craig, but we have always respected each other and held each other in high regard, both personally and as poets. You have taught me much over my time here, along with the other Poetry Soup members, and it has meant a great deal to me. I hope to be more active here next fall when things quiet down a bit, as I miss the good folks and interaction. My contract with my publisher (in UK) is for at least two more books, the second around Christmas time, so stay tuned! I owe a lot to my time here at Poetry Soup, and to all those who have supported me. I am so humbled by all your kindnesses and encouragement. Bless you all, and you especially, Craig. :o) <3

Greg - Time, healing, gathering the pieces -your Dad passed, your Mom passed, you lost a dear pet. In this fragile world those are a powerful test of sanity and peace one after another. Writing so many of those emotions is a gift you were blessed with, sharing it is a gift to us all.

AD! Yes, the "Bard of Avon" has a disciple - so, perhaps having been to Gorham Me. many times, he might consider (I actually think it, perhaps, more in keeping with the S. King connection & poetic inspirations) "The Bard of Gully Creek"---hmm...has its own je ne sais quoi! Not as romantic as the Avon thingy but certainly worthy?

Dear craig, greg is one of my most fave poets on soup. He has a very special and unique way of phrasing things in such an eloquent manner and also the way he paints imagery is otherworldly. Iv read few of his poems and commented too in the past. And i do read his poems sometimes, when i feel like reading something good! This is great news. And well deserved really! Congratulations to greg. And also i love the title! His moon poems are so magical and evocative! Nice of you to share this.

Greg is indeed a top notcher. His poetry would get a lot more attention here if he only interacted more, a self-inflicted issue experienced by many a talented poet on PS. Hope his book does well

Thank you so kindly, Tim - I hope to become more regular here again in the fall after I sell my house and things quiet down a bit. It’s the same everywhere - you get back what you give, and that’s how it should be. October looks good for a return!

Who's looking Tom, not Greg, he didn't post this - I did - and (God forbid) you would just end a comment without what ifs...

I did. I provided an honest assessment. Have a nice day Craig. PS. There's really no reason to post publicly unless one is looking for praise, or at least affirmation and in some cases (god forbid) critique. Personally, I like Greg and think he's an amazing poet.

Perhaps he's busy writing instead of seeking shallow praise and ... has life beyond social media - many live here with quantity, not quality - "self-inflicted"? implies that one gets what they deserve - yet - perhaps they don't care - he didn't ask me to post this blog, yet I appreciate, as you say, a top notcher!? Write, study, think, learn and leave something meaningful.
