Jan Allison Biography

Thought I better get round to writing a bit about myself.

I'm married and live on the Isle of Man

My poetry journey began in November 2013 after my husband was diagnosed with cancer. The first poem I wrote was called was Splendid Isolation. This was written after we returned to the Isle of Man after his surgery in England. I felt so alone and vulnerable in the accommodation - all I really needed was someone to talk to face to face and maybe have a hug! I posted a few poems on a friends facebook page - mainly humerous poems . An on-line friend Jenny Brewer saw my poems and kept telling me to join here. It took about 3 weeks of her asking me if i had joined to pluck up the courage to finally post and 'Just Desserts' was the first poem I posted here - it is based on a true experience! Since then my life has been a whirl. In Jared Pickett's collaboration I teamed up with Darren Watson and we wrote together collaboratively as JaDazzle United.

I adore penguins - the animals not the biscuits!
Loveeeee tall men with greying hair
I love baking/cooking
I like to potter in the garden - need more time to commit to it but have an aged mother who needs me more than my garden does
Adore most types of music - will give anything a listen
Best ever gig - Knebworth 1986 when 'Queen' headlined

BROKEN LINK - REPORT FEATURE

Has anyone else had issues trying to alert admin via the report feature and found it isn't working?

I messaged them via 'contact us' on 4th february about an issue and again today on another problem but i have not heard back

I realise they are probably busy with the getting the new anthology ready for publication but it would be nice if issues could be nipped in the bud

From comments on my blog, soupers have tried in vain to make you aware of this for many months going back to last year. I hope that you will mend the broken link urgently not just 'soon' and then action the 'contact us' mails that have been sent to you.

Jan, one of the issues you informed admin about was a 'poet' whose highly unlikely last name ended with the four letters beginning with f and ending with k. Four poems posted on the same day and between them viewed over 100 times without one comment... to the credit of readers who chose to ignore them. Hopefully, none of those readers were children. I'll not give more info since the posts remain, despite admin having been informed.

We can’t do what the administration asks us to do if they don’t make contacting them available. Glitches are no longer glitches when they become a long term problem. I’m not here as often as I used to be but still find it perplexing when a picture I post is transferred into IMAX size.

I was off the site for some months and despair of the fact the report feature hasn't been working for some time and nothing has been done.

Jan, I noticed today that the report poem link was not working because I tried to report a poem, I used the contact us link also, Constance

I too used the 'contact us' feature to alert them to two issues but nothing has been done and from what Suz said below it has been some months the report button hasn't worked. i added a comment to admins blog on the new book only to have mud slung in my direction. Its no wonder i took time out from the site and no wonder folk leave when nothing gets done to deal with issues.

Constance, many of us have reported it and the admins have not addressed it or fixed it.

We need to keep ourselves safe. Be carefully what you share such as voice mail, as it can be used in voice recognition software, eg just saying "Yes" to a telephone query could result in an online transaction. I rather don't read my poetry on here ...I would rather stick to my tribe: "Hi, guys!" ~®~ (waving) ...:)

thanks for the advice about voice recognition software, and I don't do on line banking which gives a little protection i guess

Shame it wasn't rectified when Suz informed them some time ago. No wonder folk leave when issues aren't resolved with a feature that is supposed to help both the poet and admin

Andrea, it seems to fall on deaf ears. No F/U from the admins. They also let a known plagiarizer back on the site who is paraphrasing from other poems now to make poems. Also AI generated poems that are being chosen for POTW. I have also reported that the report feature no longer works. Where is the integrity?

True Andrea and they took plagiarism more seriously years ago I can think of 4 soupers they removed from the site and now with AI inflitrating the site on a daily basis we are fighting a losing battle if we have no way of contacting admin... and when we do nothing gets done:-( hugs jan xx

And you're left wondering if they actually received it, a lot of companies use the ' we have received your email and we'll get back to you within 48hrs' admin should set this up, at least you'll know they've received it. Tom

I noticed some time ago that the report feature does not work (since middle of last year, if I'm not mistaken). I resorted to Contact Us, but had not heard back from them on those issues. I have given up reporting issues (even if I have taken screenshots of the problems). Block and delete has now become my only response. It is not ideal, but it is the only remedy to keep my blogs and poems safe from trolling and bots - a bit like those little blue flags on Facebook "Marked safe from ..." Gosh Suz has it not been working for that long. I've not been so active so hadn't noticed until recently. I see admin have posted a blog, let's hope they take notice of our concerns, but i won't hold my breath!

Update: They do act speedily when a bot is reported by deleting the account.

Jan, I would bet you and Tania have reported more wrongdoings to the administration than anyone else. It’s what they’ve asked us to do, but it’s a useless endeavor when time and again we’ve done what they ask and not only get no results… but the reported complaints are ignored with not so much as a thank you for attempting to prevent things that are supposedly not allowed.
