I wish I was a finalized

Blog Posted by Viv Wigley: 5/7/2018 12:26:00 AM

Hi folks,

Well, it appears everyone was up for a bit of fun and this contest filled up quicker than I thought, which was jolly nice. A lot of entries never made the final, since they did not follow the simple contest criteria, which is sad, but rules are rules. The ones that did make it are more than worthy, and an absolute pleasure to read, so without further ado.....

1st place- Nina Parmenter

This is totally bonkers! An absolute joy, in the style of Edward Lear, and it would make a great song, too. Nina took the contest by the tentacles and nailed it, laugh out loud and surreal, with words like 'flunged', 'shimbly' and 'flooped', this poem is in a different league. I adore it. Well done, Nina, you loony!

2nd place- Andrea Dietrich

I asked for a giggle and I got one, but was surprised on finalizing to find this was Andrea- I'd have said it was Jan Allison. Andrea, you naughty thing, thanks for the smile, a fun limerick, congrats!

3rd place- Alexis Y.

Another bit of limerickian lunacy, and I'm sure the ladies can all relate to it. Well done, Alexis.

Joint 3rd- Jan Allison

A slight bias here, if I may be forgiven, I'm a cat owner, and all of the reasons Jan has listed make me want to be a cat , apart from the eye watering ,leg crossing last bit, although the missus would probably have no objection. Well done, Jan x

4th place- John Anderson

Here's a bird with attitude, a bit of a strut, and I like this playful piece, didn't listen to the audio until after finalizing. Whose voice is that, John? Congrats.

Joint 4th- John Gondolf

A bright and breezy piece from John, and a good choice of bird. I quite like the last two lines, I do like to listen to birds with a good song (Blackbird's and Robins particularly). Well done, John.

Joint 4th- Broken Wings

Another nice choice of creature, and I do like the slightly self-deprecating touch- I'm sure you're a pretty good dancer when nobody is watching, Constance, eh? Congrats! x

Joint 4th- Kevin Shaw

Yaaay, someone picked a Sloth! That's my creature of choice, a life of bone idleness with a coating of green slime is quite appealing. I'm halfway there, I've got the slime. Fun write, Kevin, made me smile, well done.

5th place- Susan Gentry

I did ask for the unusual, and Susan graciously provided. I was unfamiliar with the white Raven, and the term 'Leucistic'- nice to learn something new every day. Thanks, Susan .

5th place- Laura Loo

And going for raw power and no nonsense domination, it's Laura, with a chocolate Moose that certainly isn't low calorie, but is high on protein. And testosterone. No arguments from me, and a fine monorhyme, to boot. Congrats, Laura x

Joint 5th- Sandra haight

Before anyone comments, I did put 'creature' in the contest remit, so Sandra was entitled to pick something mythological and graces her choice with a light, airy, gentle piece, full of colour and serenity. Well done, Sandra x

Joint 5th- Kayla Evans

A new name to me, but a nice piece with that sense of frustration we all sometimes have when we watch birds, with the sky as their playground. And yes, Kayla, I sometimes wish I was a sparrow, too. Well done.

Joint 5th- Larry Bradfield

Great choice, larry, and it certainly oozes lurrve, like a Barry White song. Well done.

Joint 5th- Fauxcroft Wade

A soaring, majestic and thoughtful piece from Fauxcroft, for a mighty bird, well done.

Joint 5th- Beata Agustin

This made it through for several reasons, namely it is unusual, and I'm all for unusual, and it's an Abecedarian with an awful lot of effort put into it, so well done, Beata!

6th place- Mick Talbot

A nice little Limerick from Mick, with his 'Long fat and always legal' Beagle. And yes, no more hunting, hear, hear! Well done, Mick

Joint 6th- Laura Leiser

I was considering the Octopus if I had entered this, but Nina and Laura beat me to it. A fun piece from Laura, which would make a good recruitment drive for any aspiring Octopii out there. Well done, Laura x

7th place- Gershon Wolf

A different take on the theme from Gershon, and a thought provoking piece- if we invented our dreams, what would we have left to dream of? Clever write, gershon, well done.

Joint 7th- Michelle Faulkner

A nice choice and a smart move, Michelle- live in a tree, you can't go wrong. As long as you're not under a Sloth. That would be gross a few times a day. Well done :)

Joint 7th- Sian St. John

A lovely cat write from Sian, and good reasons why you'd want to be a cat. I'd settle for love like that right now, I really would... Congrats! x

8th place Subimal Sinha-Roy

And finally, waiting in the top right hand corner of your window, lurks Subimal, waiting...patiently... a shame we didn't get someone writing about wanting to be a bee, I could have copied and pasted the two poems together and watch Subimal pounce :) Nice write, well done, Subimal.

Well, that wraps it up for this contest, thanks to all for entering- now, another 'one nine and sixteen' contest is fired up and ready to go- I look forward to your contributions. Many thanks. Love 'n hugs, Viv x

Thank you for the contest and I am honored to be on your list (although I got mixed with Laura Loo somehow on ty his list). I stay amazed of the imagination poets on PS have and the talent too. Thank you, again.

Aaaargh! Well spotted, Susan. When I finalize a contest, I do the blog immediately and have three screens running at once. Old duffers like me get confused easily, sorry. Mistake now rectified, thanks x

Thanks so much on my generous placement, Viv. I was hoping to fool you into thinking a guy did mine. But thinking Jan did my poem was good enough!! Congrats to everyone. Loved Nina's and the others I read. Love any kind of poem about cats, so Jan did such a great job with hers! I have to go off now and hope to read the rest of the winners later!

You are a mistress of disguise, Andrea, sort of like the Scarlet Pimpernel but with heels x

Many thanks for my placement and congrats to the winners. I knew Nina's would sail straight to the top it was so clever and very funny. I actually wrote 3 poems Viv - 2 are about men (to some they are strange animals lol) but in the end i submitted my cat poem. Hope you will drop by the other limericks I wrote which were inspired by the contest:-) hugs Jan xx

Viv, thank you for another great contest, and for my wonderful placement, well I am not the best dancing humming-BIRD, nor the worse, but not as bad as the poem makes out, or am I only a good dancer, twirler in my head. Congratulations to all your winners.
