Distractions

Blog Posted by David Brooks: 6/3/2016 8:44:00 AM

June 3 Med...
To self: Today, be mindful of Distractions.

Driving around my little town and beyond, I'm increasingly aware of all the things in my truck that are distractions: radio volume, navigation, media play, temp adjustments, seat settings, and more.
The "more" being the worst of all...texting and talking on my phone.
True story: there was this guy in 1992 that drove a stick shift Beemer, talked on his bag phone and ate lunch all while driving. He ran a business mostly out of his car, and thought this was a smart use of his time. (Somehow, I'm still alive today.) Stupid is as stupid does.
Take driving more seriously. Get all your settings done before hitting the road. Stop fumbling with drinks and music and phones. Remember you're driving a 2000-pound, 70 mph bullet.
Be safe out there everyone. And God knows, pay attention.

Braggart
by D.A. Brooks

   ---
There once was a driver named Dave,
Of his driving he often would rave.
Then one day on his own, drove and talked on his phone,
Now he's bragging about his new grave.

Luke 10:38-42...
Now as they went on their way, Jesus entered a village. And a woman named Martha welcomed him into her house. And she had a sister called Mary, who sat at the Lord's feet and listened to his teaching. But Martha was distracted with much serving. And she went up to him and said, “Lord, do you not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Tell her then to help me.” But the Lord answered her, “Martha, Martha, you are anxious and troubled about many things, but one thing is necessary. Mary has chosen the good portion, which will not be taken away from her.”

Great Blog, David! I don't drive (can you imagine? LOL!) But I do tend to try to do to much at the same time in other areas of my life... stems from being an office clerk for years, never do just two things at a time when you can do three. Momhood is very much the same, juggle a baby on the hip, do laundry and use a speaker phone while muffins are baking upstairs.. still, focus on one thing and whatever it is will bloom... cheers to you. Hope you have a good weekend, Cyndi

I really like this particular blog. This is the type of thing happening in today's society that has changed the way we interact with the world. Love the Bible story. My mother often told us that one. (my mom sided with martha because she is a cleaning fanatic and felt bad for her!!)I see nothing wrong with eating while driving. I even put on lipstick and mascara, but my eyes never leave the road while I am doing it. As long as eyes are on the road and one hand on wheel, I think it's ok to do things! Love your poem that went with this blog. I just enjoy the kinds of topics you do!
