I found a contest that interested me but when I went to the poet's page of poems and went back over a couple of months I found as far as I could tell they had never written a poem in the form they were requesting...so it gave me reason to ask my question...thank all of you for your thoughts

Hi Frederic, I have come across sponsors who have written several poems based on the form they ask for; unfortunately those poems reveal a lack of knowledge regarding that form...

Suz, what does "meets requirements" mean?

I have a bugaboo with contest sponsors who N/A a poem that meets requirements but doesn’t explain what the reasons are for giving it such a poor grade. I am going to avoid contests that are too General from now on. It’s not constructive.

Yes, but even then it is often not done correctly.

Frederic, absolutely, it makes sense for that sponsor to have experience in writing the form(s) they will be judging. I agree with Jan, it is always nice for them to have an example as well.

I usually try to give the benefit of the doubt...but I do agree that sponsors should be (very) up-to-date with the form they ask for. Unfortunately this is not the case, and that is why nowadays I seldom enter contests.

Most definitely. Otherwise how are we to tell if the sponsor understands the form, or not.

yes Frederic I like to see an example of what they require and i also think sponsors should have the decency to stick with the contest theme and NOT change it if they don't like the poems people have spent time writing for it. I have contacted admin on the subject. hugs jan xx
