The mysterious legendary Homer, thought to be a blind wandering poet or minstrel that the Greeks and Romans considered the greatest author ever, composed the Iliad and the Odyssey. Many scholars agree that a very capable bard, using older, oral traditions, dictated these texts to a writer during the early part of the eighth century BCE.
