Pain is not exclusive

What you believe or don't believe doesn't detract from your value as a human being. What we do know is that we have each other. Humanity amongst the stars.
Believing that animosity is justified, is perhaps the greatest failing of humanity. We're wise to see that regardless of what we think or believe, the human condition is a fragile one tempered by injustice and injuries perceived by individual experience. It breaks us all one way or another creating false righteousness in our actions.
Nothing justifies othering, or sub human treatment. Nothing justifies a lack of regard for the value and quality of life we extend to others. We all learn this in our own way, in our own time, from our own actions, and the actions of others.
If you know this and have found peace with others and yourself, I don't care how you found that. Only that you did.
I'll be honest, I didn't learn that from Religion or Science. I learned that from the terrible ways people treat each other, and from all those teachings together. In my mind the pursuit of the divine is worthwhile, but believing another who professes to know its will, a failing of our own courage to know conscience.
Empathy is ingrained in every cell of our body, it is society that conditions that out of us. Whatever religion, ideology, philosophy, or life experiences holds you true to humanity, I'm just glad it does. I hope that this generation will be different, and able to refrain from repeating the mistakes of history.
Pain is not exclusive to anyone and it's easy to transfer that on to someone else, to blame. I've always believed in personal accountability and responsibility. It would be easy to place blame. It's more difficult to be different. I accept the wrong humanity has done. The limits of my power being self and self alone, all I can do is promise actions which reflect those beliefs. To act with integrity and decency towards others.
Honor, merits new meaning today. Something all people would do well to help redefine.
