The Whistle

The whistle was in the air the bells were dinging,
I was hustling along and not really thinking.
The train was passing as I watched on,
looking to the back to see how much had gone.

In a hurry I was eager for the rumbling cars to pass,
there were three to go, finally at last.
Standing on the tracks looking back at the caboose,
there was still an odd rumbling beneath my shoes.

The last red car continuing to put distance between us,
but somehow the rails beneath my feet were beginning to fuss.
A sudden sweaty chill hit, I felt faint.
Turned around, oh no wait!

A train coming from the other line
I quickly stepped back surely I was fine.?????
