Yew Poems - Poems about Yew

Voice of Lee Kuan Yew

I took a trembling island by the hand—
Barefoot children, broken streets,
A people shamed by foreign tongues,
Their dignity pawned for crumbs of aid.

I did not wait for the West to love us.
They called me tyrant,
Because I silenced the noise
That kept my people in chains.

They praised democracy—
Yet their own hands were stained
With centuries of empire and greed.
I

In the Darkness of their Own Doing

In an ancient square
There is a yew tree wood
Of such antiquity
The tree roots writhe
In the darkness of their own doing
Up yet down, to infinity

Amongst the limbs a dark man breathes
The steam of his breath
His only cloth
The rime and earth
Under his fingernails
His only food

Waiting to be never seen
And preserving the holy hood
He drips with

We buried him under the large yew tree,
We all wore thick face masks as they should be.
The shade of the green yew tree was pleasant.
Yet we all knew the poison there present.

It was not his wish to bury him there.
He died under the tree eating a pear.
Little bothering about deadly fumes
His mind elsewhere humming her

Yew Tree Lodge

YEW TREE LODGE - Story poem

When I was young we had a local witch, or so they said.
Meg Reid at Yew Tree Lodge. That’s the legend we were fed
The lodge was dark and forbidding, away from the street light’s glare.
Surrounded by gnarled old yew trees, weirdly shaped and bare.
They’d been there for two hundred

Yew

St Oswald's church is huddled in the vale
of Grasmere. Yew trees along avenues
relinguish cones between the granite tombs
in shadows decked, their muted roots reseed
as tiny trailing fingers feel for loam
with olive tips that dip through waves of sage.

He planted seven trees where shadows grow
beneath the marbled slabs, sad stones bewail
the loss of fragile flesh;

Yesterday I was in a little funk
because I got peed on by a big skunk
             took a long shower
              about every hour
discarded new jeans cos they stunk

ii Ivy and Yew Sculpture Garden ii - CT

I smiled when fir boughs hid from view
Live floral statues in mystery
With teasing eyes to see their clues
In topiary forms set free.

With ancient sculptors hand and eye
Spirals born – laurel stars shine shy
Fox and hounds racing on the lawn
While ivy hearts wink at the dawn.

Castle walls made

Lee Kuan Yew

LEE KUAN YEW

A shining star in the Asian sky,Lee fondly,Singapore friendly.

What’s the definition of dedication? if one asked, say Lee.

Masons build mansions but nations only by true sons like Lee.

A magician doing wonders with the magic pole called A/c on workers to grow on his Cold War!

Reverting Sea water is science but sweat into

I want to merge with this old Yew,
To travel through its rings of time.
Back when it's sprout had just begun
Near Blarney's river so sublime.

Where ivy climbs the castle walls,
A quaint sized foot bridge leads to where,
The old strong Yew still charms today
As autumn chills with crisp clean air.

I felt compelled to climb it's limbs
To sit

The yew trees
Were like staid old ladies in green skirts.
They lined the way to the church door.

Like the staid old ladies,
They did not bow when the fancy vicar
Walked the path, or asked him how he was.

Like the ladies they were proud,
And all brown leaves from fancy trees
Annoyed him, just like they.

The bonsai mirrors your grace
a miniature yew jade eyed
searching through black needle lashes
lust hidden inside.

A yew pruned to perfection
would out strip the forest fine,
a single shutter caresses
like limbs on the wind.

With sweet clarity refined
will be the bowed head of yew
for our love is so inclined
for generations.

I Want To Be Just Like Yew

Strong
never wrong

Tough
when the going gets rough

Loony
when all is gloomy

Addicted to chips
bitter sweet lips

Brown
in a coloured town

Small
with a shorter distance to fall

Honest at times
& mostly at rhymes

You,person in the mirror,im looking to
I just want to be like you

(Thanks for all your thoughts on my "To all soupers:Warning!"Peice.Helped alot Xox)
