Broken Trust

I asked you once for something small—
just truth, unpolished, plain.
But you wrapped it up in careful words
and handed back a stain.
It looked like honesty at first,
it sounded almost real,
but somewhere in the quiet cracks
I felt the edges peel.
Now every sentence echoes twice,
one version, then the doubt—
like footsteps in an empty hall
that never quite fade out.
I turn your words like fragile glass,
hold them to the light,
searching for the hidden seams
you tucked just out of sight.
And maybe you meant no harm at all,
maybe you thought it kind—
but broken trust is rarely loud,
it fractures in the mind.
So here we stand, a careful space,
no anger left to defend—
just the quiet, certain knowing:
I can’t trust you again.

I won't leave you Bluebird
Forever I will be
Your troubadour in waiting
Where no one else can see
My heart is yours, it has been
I penned a little note
Then hid it in a fencepost
So many years ago
It started with an inkling
Resisting, still it grew
I wrote this down on paper
"I think that I love you"
I put it in that secret place
Protected and secure
I wrapped it up in plastic
And hoped it would endure
The elements of weather
The rain, the wind, the snow
It was my first endeavor
At telling you, you know?
I state now for the record
You know will never end
Regardless of what happens
You're more than just my friend

My Husbands Horse

My husband has a running joke
About his perfect gift
And since his birthday’s here, I thought
That he could use a lift.

A horse is what he claims to want
And we all play along,
For living in Manhattan, well,
A horse does not belong.

And then I had a great idea
And Amazon came through -
A hobby horse that neighs
And makes some clip clop noises, too.

My son put in the order
And he wrapped it up real sweet.
To see my husband ride it
Was a laugh-inducing treat.

Be careful what you wish for
Since there may just be a gap
Between fantasy and truth, but either way,
Let’s giddy-yap!

(Note - Poetry Soup did not let me put
an apostrophe in Husband’s in the title!
As a former English teacher, I say Grrrrr!)

I Need You

Well heres the story of you and me.
Wrapped it up in a summary.
Tell it to ya, if you got time.
Oh my baby how I wish you were mine.

I need you
In my life

Please let me come home

Well it started on a February night.
Back then everything was all right.
You walked around lookin so nice.
Looked at you once, but had to look twice.

I need you
In my life

Please let me come home

Well this carried on for some time.
I knew right away you had to be mine.
I made you fall in love with a trick.
Then I moved away and became love sick.

I need you
In my life

Please let me come home

I came here and you came there.
We fell in love without a care.
I knew right then I had to come home.
You couldn't stand being all alone.

I need you
In my life

Please let me come home

Well we moved in really quick.
I was great until I got sick.
All my love was all the same.
But in the end I am the only one to blame.

I need you
In my life

Please let me come home

We kept on threw thick and thin.
Why it went wrong, where to begin.
I fell off of a one way track.
If I had it my way, I would take it all back.

I need you
In my life

Please let me come home.

Brownie's Broken Beak

Brownie broke her beak today
Purloining potted prawns
Despite Will’s whistled warning words
To only eat from lawns

But Brownie boldly battered
that toughened tin top jar
and broke her lovely beak in bits
she’d pushed her peck too far

but wily Will he had a way
to triumph testing trial
so searching for some Superglue
he produced a plastic phial

But Brownie fussed and fluttered
And Thang a tuneleth thong
Worried when Will wrapped it up
thseed thing her thong all wong

One dinky drop of adhesive
Fast fastening he found
Forever fixed his flailing foot
But stopped that thsquawking thound

The Happiest Day

I have open my heart and free my mind
I become one with us
And one with time
I have connected to life
As it connected to me
Oh my lord I turned 17
Yes a age
Of happiness an joy
R rated movies will be my toy
Curfew is lifted
As I am old
This is just the beginning I am told
Now this may seem silly
Yes indeed
But can you remember when you turned 17
Its a landmark
An age of time
All grown
Well.. in a years time
2010
gave me this gift
Wrapped it up with a kiss
Now, now
You may say “what?”
“It been a whole year
more things should have filled with you cheer.”
But nothing such happened
In this year combine
I continued life, nothing to divine
So the age of 17
Has occurred
Now 2011
Should be much more fun
The gift of 18
Has begun
Oh I cant wait for this magnificent gift
But for now I shall say
October 24 was the happiest day!

Note: October 24 was my Birthday

The Secret Child

I have a story I cannot share
I 'm dragging it with me everywhere
covered in sandspurs and broken glass
a plastic bag of gold and trash
Slop is scraping in a line
a snails track, putrid, green with slime
My uncle wrapped it up for me
starting out when I was three
It's our secret sweet, he said
keep it underneath your bed
and when he died the mystery
ended up with only me
I cannot share it lest I die
he said I would,I don't know why.
I have a secret i Dare not share
I
 take it with me everywhere.
