I can't, whistle I, wish I could.
When I hear folk whistle, it sounds good
I'm like a kettle without a spout,
I purse my lips but, no sound comes out.
Blow girl, blow, the sound will come,
Whistling comes easy to everyone,
Says my husband gleefully,
As he whistles merrily.
I am starting to bristle,
Eighty-four, and still can't whistle.
My father could not bear to hear,
When my mother whistled loud and clear.
He said " A whistling woman and a crowing hen,
Are neither fit for God nor men."
I switch the radio on to my favourite station,
And sing and dance with jubilation.

Birds like to perch upon a limb to sing
but today the gathering is silent and sad
Unknown to them my breath drew last
my morning whistle call was not heard
One bird summoned the others to comfort him
Softly he spoke to the other birds that huddled close
They also were taken from their connection and joy
In distress one by one they began to call out
One bird said he knew of the whistler’s demise
They all flew off to sing and say goodbye
I am now resting under those solemn trees
where birds mourn for their whistlers that passed
If you hear them sing, please whistle back for me
The compassion was equal with unconditional love
Filling my heart with melodies only birds can sing

My bird will perch upon a limb and watch
Bewildered as to what it sees below,
Unbeknown to him his whistler’s breath drew last
before he could heard his morning whistle call.
He summoned the other birds to comfort him
Shuddering he spoke to his friends which huddled close
they too were taken from their connection and joy
that became their need to sing back and frolic
One bird said he knew of the whistler’s demise and whereabouts
the gathering then flew off to the garden of peace
where I among others are resting under the watchful trees
and where the birds mourn for their whistlers
should you hear them sing, please whistle for me

He whistled away
For most of the day
We sat in the mud, bored
half to death.
Smoking and joking,
Coughing and choking,
We'd get over this bloody war yet.
Then in dark
As if for a lark
Fritz sent up a display, I say
a beautiful bloody display.
Whizz went the bang
As the hot metal sang
A withering ballad of death.
He'd not whistle again
Most annoying of men
He lay in the mud, no more to be said
except, he is dead.
Jagged metal through his head
Quite dead I said, quite dead
He's taken his very last breath.

She thought she had nothing to gain
and posing for it would be a pain
but son insisted
against her wishes
her portrait gaining a lot of fame
Women would look at it and bristle
holding tight onto their epistles
but not their men
they loved the new trend
her long black dress making them whistle.

The lifeguard is whistling again-
Pretending not to hear i dive in headlong
He approaches me from the shore's end
Stating words that rhyme like seagulls in my head
Walking further through the crowdy mass
i'm wondering how many people rushed in traffic
So they could finally relax in sand
For me life is beating hard with every breath
A newlywed is struggling to push her two babies
Up the sandy hill it looks like it will take all day
When i offer to push, she gushes
A flurry of romance spills from her eyes
Telling me about her absent husband
I'm wondering about rules of etiquette
I go back on my sandy towel
Listening to voices impress the air
A budlight helicopter not to far off
Closer inland, the traffic is madness
I serenade the passagers as i pass by
Bicycle through the city
Like a Japanese school boy
Its all fun and games
When you catch the right waves
