Premium MemberTHANKFUL FOR VETERANS

Today I’m thankful for all our Veterans…
and I pray our country strives to make all our veteran’s futures bright
by offering them as much support when they return…
as we did when se sent them off to fight

And I hope our now divided country
will never forget… what our veterans were fighting for:

(As Oliver Wendell Holmes said:)

One Flag,
One land
One heart
One hand
One nation…evermore

A Very Telling Poem

“Alas for those who die with their songs still inside them.”
---- Oliver Wendell Holmes

Soul means nothing
until we understand the language of crying.
The voice of the soul
is you breaking through yourself,
it’s an emotional keening
from the core, from the essence.

In music the notes are the means
but the music itself is - soul.

‘Proverbs’ define soul
as the flame of God,
the flame is not the fire, the heat
it awakens is the soul.
The flame is restless and ever seeking
alone it is unexpressed
soul is its expression.

Natural objects have form and substance,
their particular texture and patina is the soul
of that object.

Soul is very telling, and it is never false to itself
and so it must cry
until the inner becomes the nature of the outer,

then we may point to the heart
and speak the word ‘soul’
knowing that our truth is now wordless.

Quiet

"Make a place to sit down. Sit down. Be quiet." ~Wendell Berry

Find
A quiet place
A quiet spot
A quiet time
to sit quietly and just listen…
the flowers giggling
the winds whispering
the mountains and the seas
humming in unison;

Shhh, be quiet! Listen…

the spirits of the universe
are trying to speak to you.

Strange thought just entered my head
What if I critiqued my own poems
D'ya think I'd really be tough on myself
Or would you detect a slight bias tone

Tried using the criteria of accepted norms
I'd be down at the bottom, no bones
But for humorous verse and originality
Call me Oliver Wendell Holmes

First I followed time honoured patterns
Of poets that have gone before
But that's not what makes a poet of note
Originality is what raises his score

So go ahead and break all the rules
That have been in place forever
Develop your style of creative writing
And be proud of your endeavour

Named for Oliver Wendell Holmes, he makes the rash decision to leave his successful law practice and pursue his lifelong dream of being a farmer, despite having no real-world knowledge or experience, as evidenced by him doing farm chores while wearing a three-piece suit
Lisa Douglas living with her father, the deposed King of Hungary. Pampered by her wealthy family, her skewed world view and domestic ignorance provide fertile ground for recurring gags.

Premium MemberChanging the Past

a strange sort of flow
comes with thoughts of long ago
spews a welcome glow
nostalgia may just soothe
when mixed with lies and half-truths

Hitler and his ilk
less troublesome than spilled milk
like Wendell Wilkes
slavery a slight bother
endorsed by founding fathers

a happy nation
few trials or tribulations
add more misinformation
ignore racial injustice
force the children to trust us

all Greenwood flattened
pretend it never happened
let's not be saddened
forget all those starved and bruised
that story is over used

no big mystery
we’ll sugar coat history
practice sophistry
let's deny the Holocaust
past transgressions should be lost

need new set of rules
ensure what is taught in school
makes nation look good
our kids do not need to know
repeating the past brings woe

To Love and Be Loved By You

"TO LOVE AND BE LOVED BY YOU"

Shine like the stars
which light the night,
filling your love's
life with your hearts
glow

Be to your love a
masterpiece, she
will forever in her
life want to hold

For what you possess
is truly special, and
only comes alive from
deep within

So love the one who
adores you immensely,
so her feelings on
your love will depend

Learn to love this
love who loves you,
learn to cherish her
greatly each new day

Learn to hold back
hurtful words, so not
to cause her sadness
in any way

Learn to always tell her
what's on your mind.
especially if it's only
her of whom you dream...

You'll find she'll love
you deeper in endearing
ways, much deeper than
what it seems

For the love which she
possesses only, comes
to life because of the
bliss you alone give

Shower her with all the
love in your hearts power,
so many years together,
you'll happily live.

A Broken Man

A Broken Man.

A mans heart may fail, and beat slowly,
A mans eyes may dim, and not see as clearly.
A mans strength may weaken, and his pace may be slow.
A mans thought may be confused with disease.
A mans voice may change with age.
A mans touch may be altered with pain.

But a man is not known by his age or strength,
But by the friends he has made along the way,
And by his kindness his life will ever be restored.

Angels Among Us

Angels are among us – in many different forms,
The flowers in the garden or a rose among the thorns.
We may never know where they are watching from,
But they are there from dawn to setting sun.

They may be a friend that calls to check on our day,
Someone who offers a smile or has something good to say.
They may be a warning sign placed in our way,
A hand to hold while a child is at play.

When in life the storms may come, and destruction all around,
They bring us peace – place our feet on solid ground.
God sends the Angels to help – no matter how big or small,
God sent the Angels to pick us up whenever we may fall.

Some times our days are long – and our prayers to God we pray.
But it’s good to know that God hears, and the Angels are on the way.
There is nothing that God cannot do for us – if we place our trust in Him,
For all we have to do is pray, and the Angels He will send.

So remember that God has a special Angel just for you,
And no matter where we walk – God and our Angel will see us through.
There are Angels among us – A blessing send from God.
To help us and hold our hand no matter where we trod.

Always On My Mind

I think a tender thought of loving you
So deep inside of my mind
A beautifully, wonderful lovely thought
And I think it all the time

I dream a soft dream of wanting you
So very deep inside of my heart
A blissful tranquil dream of wanting
And of my my mind it's a daily part

And all the thoughts and dreams I dream
Are always of only you
For you are the only one my love
Who can cure my lonely blues

And I think this thought of loving you
Always so deep inside my mind
A beautiful wonderful thought of love
And I still think it all of the time

...whenever you are away from me.
