I don't wanna be
a wannabe no more
waiting for opportunity
to come a'knocking
on my open door
and the day she does
tho' the lights are on
there's no one home
as I'll probably be
out to lunch
knowing me
so I wanna see
'Been there, done that!'
on my resumé because
I'm oh-so tired
of being a never-was

so
a possum who wanted to be
not a possum but a wallaby
but
a wallaby who wanted to be
a whatever whatever he
and more
like an adventurer high
in a hot air balloon
or an astronaut off
on a trip to the moon
or even
a rider of horses
bicycles, waves
an explorer of mountains
of oceans and caves
wow!
a whatever whoever
wherever he
oh possum
the wishes and whims
of a wannabe wallaby

Hypocritical in her ways,
She yearns to waste her days.
Morning to noon, and night again,
The years flow by, unchanging, mundane.
Her lies, like polished trinkets, gleam,
Each with sharp edges, yet unseen.
Her flaws lie open, raw and exposed,
Leaving depths of cruelty still unopposed.
She longs for hell, its dark embrace,
Yet finds herself in virtue's space.
She tries her worst, yet cannot stray
How does one fail in wicked ways?
Stumbling down the wide, dark road,
Mistaken for an innocent rogue,
No matter how fiercely she may strive,
She remains a sinner wannabe.

I saw you smile,
Now, I'm smiling too
You say so many words.
I know you don't mean all of them.
When you say 'leave',
I know your heart would search for mine.
I don't want to be the distance that measures away from you.
Just smile at me.
I saw you smiling,
Now, I'm smiling too.
Then your face sold a different tune.
I should have avoided being in that frame.
When you say 'what' with the sternest expression.
I still smile because I know your heart will hurt for mine later.
I don't want to go through the stress.
So, just smile at me.
I saw you smiling.
Now, I'm smiling too.
'As much as it seems, that I'm yours'..
The sweetest part of those words was mine.
The former part was you wishing I'd still be there.
That I'll stay when I visibly erode that smile from your face.
But I'll still smile at you because you thought of me that way.
So, please, just smile at me.

Hark, Hallow Dark my dear pal, Titans Mars
rally Martian stars, tag team game Play--Card
Black, Naturals -- rare place reason, Blackguard
quandary, battlescarred, halt? Pass? Have cigars?
Smart-aleck, hmm! facial--compact, boxcars,
ugh! gawdawful. Beauty Triathalon,
He'll be back straightaway, mayhaps papers?
Your facial pasted atop Front page! Bazaars
trains, sidecars, racecars, famous! Alas, Shawn,
lad go faraway places, imagine!
Wanted to ... look balanced, thats it, smart-like
Cameras I take it! Fair and Square, dawn
speaking of that man, time has no passion
I want you meet mama, familylike

Flim Flam
the hero man
sold his story
and away he ran
From Hanoi to DC
before swamps could be drained
karma would catch him
and rot out his brain
But the damage was done
in the Great Halls of power
as his bombs of war
the whole world did scour
So what is now left
when the hero has faded
same as it was
a nation all jaded
Clamoring to praise
what was clearly a fool
a spoiled near despot
the ultimate tool.

Well, I’ve lived in this Montana country
guess it's been pert near fourteen years
I call myself a cowboy though I ain't
punched no cows or branded no steers
Ain't broke me no fiery eyed wild stallion
Or pushed cattle across open land
Never fended off a mountain lion
nor killed a grizz with my bare hands
I ain't wrangled some ornery rustlers
with my rifle and colt six gun
Haven’t spent winter alone in a line shack
or been in a bar fight just for fun
But I got me a hat, some chaps and spurs
went and watched me a rodeo
I learned that to be a real life cowboy
is more than putting on a show
Don’t need to wear a Montana slope hat
to live the good old cowboy way
It's more about how you respect the land
and always mean just what you say
You believe in traditions and honor
love, nature, honesty and song
A person who follows his commitments
though he may have to ride alone
If you want to be a cowboy my friend
then it's having the fortitude
to stick to convictions and do what's right
That is the cowboy’s attitude

In the city of Chicago
There are born Queens with beautiful faces
Commanding constable with gloves in hands
But on the other side of the Empire
Is my city, where birds sing louder than car horn
And echo's of various native languages
Pierce the street like tribal war
A local girl of humble birth
But I want more than our local gin
I want liquor of the Queens
The red wines in green bottles
I want more than I could have
I want to live like the Queens

In a land of troubadours and song,
A young man dreamed he would belong,
With heart afire and passions strong,
He set out to join the throng.
He practiced every single day,
Learning scales and melodies to play,
And practiced singing in every way,
Hoping his talents would soon sway.
But when he joined the troubadour's guild,
He found his hopes and dreams were killed,
His voice was croaky, his songs were shrill,
And his rhymes would make your ears feel ill.
The other troubadours mocked his skill,
And called him "wannabe" with a thrill,
But he refused to let their words still,
For he knew he had a different thrill.
He turned to comedy and satire,
And found his voice began to inspire,
With humor and wit, he set the fire,
And his listeners soon began to admire.
So he may not be a troubadour,
But his poetry still has allure,
With comic lines and laughter pure,
He knows his calling is to endure.

I
To all you wannabe poets,
Here's a word of advice ere you start:
If you want folks to love it,
Keep your ego out of it,
When you write always write from the heart.
II
It's great fun to write haiku and sonnets
About rainbows and gay Easter bonnets,
But if you find them too terse,
You can flesh out your verse,
And festoon it with quatrains and nonets.
III
Poets come, and poets go, and poets coincide.
Some rhyme time and time again, others "free verse" with pride.
But those who let their egos reign
Oft fade and never scribe again.
They succumb to the literary sin of authorcide.
IV
Writing is for me both pain and pleasure,
The time I spend with pad and pen I treasure.
I must confess, though,
Sometimes I stress so,
When syllables I choose to use refuse to measure.

She tried so hard to fit in it was funny
But her disposition was sweet and her smile was sunny
So we gave her a pass, and smiled at her lovely ass
And let her join, without token or coin.
She was the ultimate wannabee, so don’t you see…
We did what we could, to allow her to be….
A musketeer, we became four instead of three
For she worked so hard to fit in, it was truly funny!
Keep it real, we said. Her face was all red.
She knew we had allowed, and she felt rather proud.
She became kind of a pet, flying as high as a jet.
Glad that we let her in, it was a win-win.

I can be serious
furtive, mysterious
Or sunny funny playful
as I pen a whole sleigh-full
Spin long narrative yarns
of lovers in each other's arms
Adorations to celestial beauty
of skies' myriad charms
I can write a song
cut it short, extend it long
Or swiftly drum up a dance
Create a gypsy in a trance
Compose a 'Bravo!' to a friend
Or eulogize life's other end
Plumb the depths of hearts and minds
Treasures of words, uniquely mine...

With no good reason or excuse
Billionaires waste wealth and let loose
While earth goes awry
They'll float on a fly by
So Bezos can seem to be Zeus
Author's comment: M I impressed? Not at all. It only goes to show what small minds they have. You couldn't pay me to go his rocket either--even if it is the best money can buy. What is wrong with these people?

When an exciting new venture presents itself for your investment
Research the situation and seek outside advice before buying in,
Before signing on the line seek independent, expert assessment
Restrain yourself from going into partnership with any close kin.
The pressure to capitulate in what seems the perfect opportunity
Can be overwhelming when it comes from your family or a friend,
But always keep in mind that your loss will be a burden in futility
If your “nothing can go wrong” adventure comes to a bitter end.
