I am Love, Love is I
Freefalling, below the sky
Slow rotting, I know it's time
Unthawing, my countless eyes
Still wonder, who am I
Authentic, no disguise
Heart empty, I hope it's lies
I illuminate the skyline with truth that multiplies
High... My pinnacle
Heroic by nature but I brand myself a criminal
No escape from the same reality that's killing you
I lived with a frozen heart, crystalline like an igloo
Pure pristine, the frost drips like mildew
I scream for my ice queen, nameless she remain
Scarred and wounded, I realize our hearts beat the same
Your pain is mine, vice versa
Rewind, focus those beautiful eyes between your heart and spine
Lean into forgotten emotions like scattered proponents and emerge divine
For my past, I forgive and apologize
The fire in my chest so intense, that past version of myself would commit suicide
I awaken do not fret, without a sweat I unhypnotize
Reunified with my higher mind, pure clarity never again blind

She was too real for my youth,
I was stunned by her,
she came to my eyes
so unbearably perfect
that her very presence challenged
belief in any other.
Her beauty seemed reborn in every second.
No longer was time my jailer,
no longer was I a chained thought
locked within a silent skull.
She freed me,
I became a bird in her hand,
there I flew to her fingertips
and sang ethereal love songs
songs that had never touched
the earth below.
Years later, cruel time cursed me
with dull black eyes
in which her star could no longer shine.
I forgot how to love her,
forgot how to be simple.
She had become an ice-figure
carved out of my unthawing memory.
It seemed to me there,
in my shallow grave of undying loss,
that she had never happed,
but it was I
who had never happened enough,
nor sang brightly enough.
Then the night came
to dig us both a place
to be lost in.

Wind-gnawed ice.
Bird-tracks tattoo creaking water
with glittering scratches.
Ash trees stretch charred boughs
in the smoking chill.
A blind brook, in mid-stride
takes leave of its purpose,
signs falter
on frozen ground.
The sky is too brittle,
frost too searing a lick
on warm breath.
Crow black wings
against a pale sunlight,
long unthawing silhouettes
fuming to white.

red rose of rage
indigenous to the past
suffocating progress
May your thorns wither
and your petals wilt
seeds of weary disquiet
sprouting deception and chaos
with diverging agitation
I pray the ground be barren
on which you were spilt
Binding vines of poison ivy
perversely overpowering
asphyxiating roots of renewal
let your growth be stunted
prune back your aberration
Parasite that is jealousy
diseasing with discontent
and stinging bite of disillusion
your plague be eradicated
succumb to extermination
And me in my dappled shade
catching flashes of sunlight
unthawing my frost bitten heart
blossoming cultivation of love
Flourish in perennial season

No rift in the unthawing ice
The sled took dark matter over crystals of snow
Here the water's thin bonds sufficed
And the one who led was the one who should know
There was no glory in the game
For him, a southern heart seeking a northern pole
Of stars when his heart was aflame
For the warm rhythms of drums called him for a role
Beyond the ken of history
Where his firsts are ancient as the Nile, wrapped in night
Filled with stars of antiquity
Old, so old, the magi had never seen their light.
Today we know where ships must seek
Without the theodolite of desert sands
Time replaced the proud with the meek
God guides the world with his great inerrant hands
Now the servant throned in silence
Is unmasked to his regal heritage, and brought
Maryland's son his prominence
Since first Peary's eyes in his wisdom's net was caught
Like a schooner around the globe
This freedman's soul brought home cargoes none knew before
For something in his blood's wide robe
Could not resist those paths ancient Ghana explored

When the cold winds blow
It can freeze your soul
The feel of ice in your veins
Hoping you can unthaw again
When the snow storm is strong and you can't see
When life is mixed up how can it be
The wind and ice strong and cold
Like the sorrows we behold
The unthawing of the snow
Is like the unthawing of the soul
Each little snowfake of our life
Make up some of our sorrow and strife
So as the drops melt away
And the ice can no longer stay
Let the winds blow our sorrow
Into a new tomorrow
