the air of our quiet breathing
the bower bounce on which to live
outlasting all the blooms and bells of time
sweet to inhale in fresh woods and on sunflower hills
in an ever-changing dance
come ruins of unseasonable change
from bending heat
from lightning strikes
to flame the forests
particle showers like white fire singed
twinning thin air with a polluted cling
overhanging smoke
for cities in a gray-grind swim
just an environmental blip say some
not the change that threatens human kind
this smoke field as vast as all the world's disorder
what's salvageable?
a will to cherish crystal air that skims our wings
like a New Year's revel
soulful comfort
were we wiser once?
before fire choked the passing clouds
before the cauldron bubbled
the air
atmospheric anchor
vessel of our calling
imperiled necessity
once floating idealism
the changing sails of what we own

Satellite dishes are blown apart
in the wind.
She says it's going to be a bad weather day,
but her smile is bright and perky.
The wind keeps churning through sparrows
and windows.
On a plasma screen
death strikes us with a toothy banality.
The weather girl is now flapping her arms,
like a goose being sucked through a funnel cloud
of ever widening platitudes.
I don't know why some people die
in bad weather and some survive.
I can only predict
that weather girls will - in any season
appear in unseasonable frocks
and then honk at us.

WATER DOWN LEAVES
Water down leaves with Autumn’s spirited cold,
Until hands shiver, and lips are glossed a balmy-blue ~
Where every oak and maple leaf turns conspicuously old.
Green leaves, lavished in the summer of love, unfold
A windfall, of resplendent uproarious hues!
Water down leaves with Autumn’s spirited cold.
Forget the wrinkle cream, boxes of botox sold.
Live for the weathered, rapturous arctic-cruise,
Where every oak and maple leaf turns, conspicuously old.
The waterfall season, in serried spread, crisp and bold.
The aged, with timely wisdom, impress the new.
Water down leaves with Autumn’s spirited cold.
Children will jump into the latent cauldron of gold,**
After the temperature’s whisked, into a heavenly brew,
Where every oak and maple leaf turns, conspicuously old.
Unseasonable warmth, will not withhold!
Skyward eyes plead an eventual breakthrough.
Water down leaves with Autumn’s spirited cold,
Where every oak and maple leaf, turns, conspicuously old.

Not unseasonable in its arrival,
Not untimely in this place,
Not unfortunate in appearance,
Not unguarded in the race.
Socrates and Shakespeare brought a language
Only experience can understand,
Flowing phrases, stories bounding
As if guided by a hand.
Bach and Handel raised a note,
To communicate and then,
It took Beethoven to complete the cycle
Almost on a whim!
Genius lacks the sensibility
To engage the common thought,
But connects us all so deeply,
Does not really lack for nought.

They warm,
midwinter’s summer days.
And,
by thinning blood in thickening veins,
for lustful and immodest reasons,
cause men to think,
against god’s odds,
they’ve managed to reverse the seasons.
We dumb-arsed, head-f***ed, simple sods.

Of warmth, sky clear
Unmistakably; unlikely
Too be unusually calm
In a untouchable manor
And then-unmanly; unruly; jerk.
