Blue Cheese and Old Pickles Poetry Contest
Craig Cornish
A dish of disappointment
mocks the kitchen chef
two anomalies sitting on his cutting board
all in their glory, dumbfounded
... and unappetizing
plated for aliens and not humans
or for a horse that doesn’t know better
this recipe’s giving him the blues and he’s seeing red
where …
his yellow brick road has two strangers today
two lost food groups
arriving earlier in hearses
a funeral procession
mythically carrying the deceased to his kitchen foyer
… some blue cheese and an old dill
that are down for an undressing
of his bitter words
like, fudge, where’s the beef
… or better yet Mars is up there
as a cloud of despair hovers over the kitchen
not a spaceship as one might think
darkness begetting light
salt, pepper and garnishes spooked
… a ready barf bag crashes this meal

I've been served lots of unappetizing things
that simply did not please my palette.
Being force fed with bitter or insincere words
is unappealing presented as a crisp green salad.
I would rather be underfed and malnourished
than to feast on something too briny or cheesy.
I won't feast on a buffet of regurgitated foods,
like dill pickles offered as sour grapes... sleazy.
Nothing has more stench to me than rotten food.
As an example, mold spores inside blue roquefort,
and don't ask me to swallow one bite of sarcasm.
That would take far too much of my time and effort.
I'd spit out a spoon of any soup if in it swims a fly,
or if the spices were added by the hand of a hypocrite.
A warm peach cobbler would make a scrumptious dish
as long as inside there'd not be left on purpose... a pit.

The rain halted, but the breeze didn't cool.
Fiery sunny colors dwindle in the heat.
Cubes of sugar didn't dissolve.
Unappetizing or overgrown tea
It lacks both charm and stillness.
In that, you stated you'd stand back
Breath is a wave-spelling foam.
An array of fresh guides at a helm
Steamy urges lacking restraint
Colleen warbles a soothing tune.
Watery waves in the hair
Slanting eyes like the lustrous sun
A hug will place a froth in the veins.
A blessing from above.
If you omitted my thoughts on you.
Chimes of snow rang out in unison.
Please recognize my yesteryear.
Blazed a flame of regal blue.
When tomorrows are made of foam.
Staring up into the darkness of the sky.
Loose in waves of the cosmic ocean.
Fizzing, with the onset of quantum foams.
Sending dark energy to faraway galaxies.
Where does zero matter but odyssey?
And are in awe about never grace.
To shrink the size of the cosmos.
to within the reach of my palms.

Let's SEE What's in the laundry hamper?
" One a soiled cloth diapers
a fierce icky stinkysocks
some noxious obnoxious unclean towels
horrid stinking under-shorts
unappetizing horrible awful grubby baby bibs
Oh, my some mephitic nauseating obscene panties.
Musty nauseating odious under shirts
soiled squalid uncleanly pants and jeans
awful dirty filthy blouses and dresses
guess I’d better presoak and presort some of this mess???

Brown nose,
head bowed low
Sniffing submissively so
Wag the sniveling tongue,
show the power privileged ones
much servile love
Catch the prime scraps
tossed from your master’s table
Give a howl of gratitude,
back bent ... eyes to the floor
Do a lot of begging for a little more
Disgruntled windbag gas,
from the top cat sphincter mouth crack,
wafts in an odious fashion
Pet brown noses love that unappetizing smell
Obsequious odor
is their collared passion
Pungent leftover scent passed over
bottom end face down —
Complete compliance drool dripping
grovel to the ground
Beggarly you beagle bark
for an extra morsel
Missy gives you a moonshine treat
out the backdoor
Brown nose do as you’re told,
and your belly
will always stay belch full
Sleepy eyes resting by the Uncle Tom cabin fire,
the odor of rotten servitude pleases you
So in lap tongue love with your desired
bowel oppression fate
As you dog-eared wait
for an anticipated olfactory taste
of the next tummy toilet pull

Moby Dick is a classic, so I've been told
tried to read when was younger, tried to read when more old
chastised my own self severely each time
for not having interest in words so sublime.

Billy Budd caught attention
and Kafka might mention
Ayn Rand, Solzhenitsyn
rebellist penchant.

Don't care much for jewelry or bright shiny things
phone's likely to voice-mail when it ever rings
keepin' up with the Joneses unappetizing
introversion my given from generating.
Norms cramp my style more often than not
I don't watch tv thus have no clue what's hot
making up words when I need them is fun
inside I try fiercely to douse smoking gun.

A gift this life given
sheer mystery resplendent
with wisdom, compassion and love
From whence came the spark
that lent life to dark?
Within without all the same heartbeat.

nothing
happened
today
but
should
expect
it?
Lousy thoughts of a bored mind sitting on a empty chest listening to a hollow motor.
I want to be sedated; the song is playing the tune but the actual meaning is willing full.
Kkkk: the sound on my tongue smacking against the roof of my mouth...it wants a playmate...
Every day feels the same, the same fills every day.
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Bouncing ruins!
Adhesive stench!
Dumbfounding amnesia!
Dill filly should I just finger my brain(just as my body) to enjoy self effortless bliss?
Running around and stripping my clothes, so I could just bend over like a cat in heat.
Eating away at my skin, that has become dull and unappetizing even to my lingering eyes.
Avalanches are made by just the right amount of sound...
May I scream, so something of my unintellectual interest could come prowling in to entice me.
