The mind and wing

A small bug walks just like a thief,
It does not know pain, it does not know grief.
It does not ask, “Why am I here?”
It lives its life without a fear.

The bug runs when the light is strong,
But it forgets—it moves alone.
It does not think of life or death,
It only feels the light, the breath.

I lay awake as your hands haunt me,
In my mind everytime I close my eyes;
Every happy thought is tainted,
By the way I cannot move on,
From the departure of myself,
As you took me from me;
Now every time I close my eyes I'm haunted,
Ghosts intrude upon the life you took from me.

You have stolen the shine from her hair and the light from her smile
You auctioned off every unmarked joy you took
You put smiles into storage units, and laughs under lock and key
You took her away from us, you locked her in her room 
She is curled up in bed protesting your presence

You Thief

you thief
who stole my
simple dreams and
hopes
and dashed them
to pieces on the floor of our lives
while I watched
helpless in my efforts
to save them

you stole a piece of
my life and
ran away a
thief in the night
who kept looking over
his shoulder to see
if he’s been caught

the difference here
is this thief has
no profit
because we both
end up
empty handed
