Gnarly ugly skinny ass tree
You belong in a Steven King novel
Terrifyingly ominous and weird
Did I plant you?
The tree’s branches give me a nod
You must have been prettier then I think
What happened?
Age happened, the tree whispered

Scream Dreams

Have you ever experienced a scream dream
In which you are terrifyingly scared 
You attempt to scream in the dream
Yet no noise is released just air!

As you lay asleep in the real world
You are making strange whimpering sounds
The scream in the dream never materialises 
Before you wake and are earth bound

For the first time ever a few weeks ago
I actually was able to scream in my dream
As my husband lay asleep on the couch
In front of the t.v screen

Awoken by continual blood curdling screams
The loudest he had ever heard
He ran into our bedroom
Thinking l was being murdered

Decades and decades of unleashed  dream screams
Were released from me in one night
Leaving me feeling shattered and shaken
And giving my husband the fright of his life

Hey What Is That

Four children enjoying a warm summer’s day
Playing games in a world where the sky is blue.
Up from the bowels of the water comes something new.
They do not notice it right away.

The interloper chooses his prey.
Hey! What is that? Yells the youngest one, Sue.
Water monsters are now terrifyingly true.
A child is snatched and taken away.

Dance of the Weirdos

ghostly nuances
haunted houses galore
madcap witches

trick or treaters
giggling with gusto
hoping to be scared

dracula howls
terrifyingly real
vampire sandwich

ghoulish gargoyles
hiding among princesses
going house to house

dance of the weirdos
octobers insanity
no masks needed

Savoring Summer

He steps outside
on love's front yard
to savor this final summer
of playful intent,

Too soon stuck inside
when he would happily
and more healthily
have worked out
surrounded by garden sex
with sacred gratitude

And forest walks
through fertility
entered under unshaken silence
of deep summer waiting,
as ominous as an approaching tsunami
terrifyingly known
yet never experienced.

But
not today.
Not here
in this dappled refuge
from jaded burning out
and inside sun
savoring his final summer
of playfully naive intent.

I Welcome My Other

staring into my reflection I see blemishes
Anxiety, stress, ugliness others might miss
I tear myself apart in big gulps and sighs
Seeing the truth below my devil mask.

There is sorrow for a second 
But I swish that away; not wanting to feel a bit sorry for myself
Wanting to hold myself accountable 
A slap to the back of the head means my other is here now

My other is harder on me yet.
I welcome her presence. She will point out other errors.
Mistakes I might have forgotten about
Or worse buried.

Together we are a mighty force
Alcohol and I; she brings me to my knees
Revealing truth in bare, terrifyingly honest ways.
Hello, I say, welcoming her defiance and her wrath.

of terrifyingly terrific human consumer time

Left for anxiously anticipating rhymes,
reasons for seasons long trusted truths
ego-coloring beauty
captured by
and yet beyond spiritual inspirations
rewarding
redeeming
competitively cooperative nurturing nature.

Matriarchal poly-enthusiastic multi-
bio-culturalists
also account for cumulative synergy
expanding territorial dictatorial time

Rewinding awesomely awful sacred rhymes
distrusting mistrusted false tongues
electing hooded lies

Disparately dispirited
desperate starving backward future
rhyming reason seasons
of nutritional communion

Not inviting
yet tolerating,

Not accepting
yet equilaterally esteeming
estimating patriarchal monopolistic economies
within brighter lights of polycultural value

No longer worth
resonant ecowomanist trust
empowering spiraling truths 
of beauty duty,
health of wealthy safety,

Enlightening spirts
of empowering social nature

Empowering CAPITAL invested research
enlightening Earth's most heavenly design.

Neon Fish Woman Power

they saw the flight of neon fish woman 
dangerously close to self actualization
and they cringed 
at her power 
and her confidence

She rode her fish with obvious prowess
outshining hundreds of neon fish women 
who had been selected before this one
Aurilla had actually chosen herself
challenging the rest of the ocean

None had taken up the gauntlet
She had been glowing greens and blues since childhood
They all knew the prophecy.
There was no sense in trying
It was a battle none could win

So she slashed through the currents,
terrifyingly confident, living her truth
until the end of her days
Her fish Prideboy feeling 
confident that he had been
her chosen steed.

Down On Me

Crusty old oaks
wave brittle arms angrily
overhead, threatening
to drop dead
crushingly
heavy limbs
Down

Taller trees
having achieved
the highest heights
pine away, lonely
jealously pouring their
sharp needles
Down

Towering above
terrifyingly insecure
in their position
they shakily
throw their shade
blocking sun and rain-
trying to keep me
Down

What did I do
to deserve such spite
but struggle to survive
with limited might
a dogwood sapling
that could never possibly
grow to over-shadow
them?

Majestic Beauty Waits For Prey

magestic ebony lion
all powerful and masterful
intimidating without trying
fearless and terrifyingly powerful

ebony beauty with scraggly teeth
massive mane and giant claws
striking amber eyes, 
and nose built for hunting

dangerous and stealthy
strikingly handsome
takes no prisoners, makes no apologies

magestic ebony lion,
devours prey beautifully, in big gulps
wise amber eyes, waiting, intimidating me in all ways possible.

Into the Woods To Save Another

I ceased to be me when I heard the young one’s screams.
They were coming from the woods, between my two streams.
Her shrieking was terrifyingly real, not like on fantasy TV.
It felt like a young woman was being murdered 
which was good enough for me.

I ran for our big floodlight, without thinking about myself at all.
Into the woods we ran, my three dogs, me and my bravest cousin, Paul.
Her shrieks sounded closer now. They were the loudest to our right.
Suddenly something grabbed me by my arm. It was the biggest fright!

A voice whispered close to my ear, “Shh!” as a man held me into place.
Greatly relieved to hear Paul, as I could not in the dark see his face.
“Don’t you know what that is?” he whispered. “What?” I barely whispered back.
“That’s a bobcat’s cry,” he told me. “If it is threatened, it might attack.”

We immediately headed back to the house. The dogs followed 
a few hours later.
The last time I was this scared, we were in Florida, 
where I had seen a wild, loose alligator.

Uniquely uncaring about order, actually loving mess,  

Sassy, and spirited, once crazily sexy and sensuous, 

Terrifyingly independent, willing to jump in without thinking, 

Memorable to those who bother to answer my first “hi”
