          a drop of honey
    into a stream of tumult
   forms not even a ripple:
  temperature dial at zero.

       just what is needed,
  a calming voice of reason
amid the stuff and nonsense;
  war is over, peace prevails.

Resolutions 2018

This Year It’s all about me

I’ll use sleight of hand
Be all smoke and mirrors
Confess everything
Reveal nothing at all

I’ll be all misdirection
In the way the cards fall
Be honestly devious
Mischievous and raw

I resolve to be all stuff and nonsense
Don’t trust me one bit
I’ll aspire to be lascivious
And really be lovin’ it

I’m gonna’ gain as much weight as I can
Eat bacon for breakfast, lunch and dinner
Gonna’ gobble sugar (as much as I can stand)
Not gonna’ care anymore about gettin’ thinner

This year is gonna’ be all about me
I’ll not have many more I fear
And If nothin’ else…It’s gonna be
A very happy New Year

Brief interlude
A dreamy passage;
Familiar faces

~~~~~~~~~
An old friend calls
From crowded room;
Smiles bridge gap
~~~~~~~~~

Mall crowd mingle
Browse through exhibits;
Branded watches

~~~~~~~~~
Poster art works
Modern mixed media;
Stuff and nonsense
~~~~~~~~~

Little boy lost
Parents in panic;
Mall PA blast

~~~~~~~~~
Sudden downpour
Shelter seekers dash;
Motley bus-stop
~~~~~~~~~

Fancy flings funny
Clowns on sidewalk;
Downtown escapade

~~~~~~~~~
Coffee cafe queue
Caffeine fix here;
Brown liquid buffet
~~~~~~~~~

Poise of voice
Shrill staccato;
Fat lady moans

~~~~~~~~~
Swinging playground
People soaking in;
Respite from stress
~~~~~~~~~

Bougainvilleas bloom
Sultry weather heats;
Humid accolades

~~~~~~~~~
Joy wears fond smiles
Glee runs madly;
Children congregate
~~~~~~~~~

Parents chit-chat
The usual stuff;
Complaints crowding

~~~~~~~~~
Not much time
Not much space;
Not much anything!
~~~~~~~~~

My old car
Long-time friend;
Symbiotic times

~~~~~~~~~
Self-talking old man
Spends all day mumbling;
Best cryptic lines
Sun in my eyes briefly
Antiseptic tears;
Crystal clear sights
Prompt as usual
Bills in the mail;
Paid with gratitude
Make love your work
Then play becomes
Labour at life's altar
Columbarium thoughts
Death sleeps soundly;
No U-turns here
Brief monologue
Niche 211-1-88;
Visit dead parents
Love tolerates
Stuff and nonsense;
God is good
A friend suffers
Cancer treatment;
Poison cocktail drugs
Chemotherapy drip
Steady poison pump;
Balding afterglow
Life is hazardous:
Keep calm
And don't kill yourself
My niece eats and sleeps
Fine arts and great design;
Skinny as mini Coke Zero
Hamburger generation
Fussy one of a kind;
Fast everything and Facebook
Grin and Cure It
Feeling sad?
Well that's too bad,
But why mope around in a dark blue funk?
Don’t let life’s trouble
Burst your bubble.
Why waste your time on all that junk?
Now, life might have you in the pits,
But it's not time to call it quits.
Don't let those dark thoughts clutter up your mind.
Come on now, let's meditate
On things that cheer and elevate,
And leave the morose, gloomy things behind.
A great big laugh
On your behalf
Might drive the gloomy mist away.
And a toothy grin
Above your chin
Could brighten someone else’s day.
A chuckle might forestall
The family doctor’s call,
And, maybe, even shoo away the nurse.
Some stuff and nonsense matter
Could make the day go better,
And, I guarantee, it will not make it worse.
