Premium MemberThe Lobster Hunt By Omar Rayyan Omar

Have its lobster claws times two pincered off
One way sticks of this crustacean’s underwater trap?
Eight leggedly it gallops off among arthritic, bulbous trees.
And waves its spiny tail to cover up its tracks.

Dogs have joined the spirit of the game,
Spaniels with foreheads as regally as high
As their master princess on a unicorn
And will play this pint sized monster-knight to death.

Undistracted by surrealistic fish camouflaged in dark,
Untempted by sea horses following her braid.
Never can crustacean hunts be lost
When hounds are hot upon a trail of lobster sauce.

Premium MemberAnimal Antics

A foursome of squirrels wait
As the turkeys on three
Putt out.

The pond ripples
As the lone goose
Ponders his choice

Dog park spaniels run free
Their owners
Left holding the bag

A window cat
Salutes the sun

Premium MemberPuppy Loving Santa

Puppy Loving Santa had a house full of dishes, water bowls and pups.
He had to keep his breakables up high, especially his own coffee cups.
For when he was zooming around at night in his beautiful red sleigh,
He had to keep awake, so he did not fall out and disappoint the day.

Puppy Loving Santa had cocker spaniels, great Danes, and poodles too.
Mrs. Claus liked cats and had suggested two of them and a cockatoo.
There would be no room for the elves, Santa said with alarm.
So Mrs. Claus built the elves an exclusive Welcome to North Pole Barn.

You are so handy! Puppy Loving Santa said to his handy-dandy wife.
Remind me to keep you and cherish you for the rest of my life.
By the way, honey, if you run out of things to build today.
I could use sixty-seven dog houses, and could you please add a bit of hay?

Premium MemberClumps of Puppies

The puppies in Petunia Patch are pinching pumpkins today!
We wild ones ran down the road, yelling Hip! Hip! Hip! Hooray!
October sun was streaming down making the afternoon quite gay.
We laughed and jumped and whirled and twirled; it was a great day!

Which puppies do you think will show this time? Asked my Uncle Zeb.
The happiest, sparkle spaniels of course, said my eager cousin Ned.
We chased and laughed and ran amok, as we headed toward the field.
The puppies were frolicking and frisking; one held a pumpkin shield.

It is the Husky King! The Doberman gasped; he was amazed tis true.
The rest of the puppies barely noticed, tossing pumpkins as they grew.
Pumpkins landed with a splat, and the baby dogs howled their delight.
Grandmas brought pumpkin pudding, which lasted through the night.

The terrier puppies began to settle in, lollygagging in a giant pile.
These clumps of fat puppies made even the dourest of us smile.
Next year let’s bring the kitties in too, an eager fellow promptly said.
It was my cousin Twinbite two, who is as silly as Cousin Ned.

Premium MemberBlame the Cocker Spaniels

It’s the Cocker Spaniels this time the media screams
I roll my eyes, wondering when the cats will get some blame
Or the monkeys, cheetahs, sharks or giraffes
They are diabolical, plotting your death, the announcer says
I do not plot her death, but I plot taping her mouth up.

The pit bulls were the last group to blame.
What about the housewives? Do they use environmentally friendly detergent?
or the house husbands….do they recycle their lard like grandma did?
How about the grandmas who feed their pets with Styrofoam?

We are the polluters.
We are the litterers.
We are the ones driving cars one person at a time.
But let’s blame the Cocker Spaniels.
I shut off the T.V.

Premium MemberIce Cream In Vegetable Soup

Got an ice cream cone in one hand
While typing with the other
Ice cream creates contented old seniors
Drooling on our nighties as we hover

Isn't ice cream meant just for kiddies?
Wow! That surely isn't the case
Old folks can down a chocolate sundae
Beg for more with a messy face!

Maybe it makes us feel younger
Or it's simply just a treat
As we lick away like happy spaniels
A sensation that can't be beat!

Really not shy about our craving
We'd fight for another scoop
There are many other ways to try it
Imagine ice cream in vegetable soup

So stay away from older folks
When they're lining up for some
They'll shove you and step on your face
For a scoop of butterscotch rum!

The Chasm

I knew I’d offended you, your smile
of hurt, the one reserved for whipped
spaniels; you use it too.

We didn’t speak as we strolled through
the woodland park , picking up acorns,
dropped by passing tree top squirrels

And when my hand brushed yours, you
pulled away, like a nervous electric eel,
stranded in the rainless mud

I knew I’d offended you.

Swinging Spaniel

Swinging to and fro from side to side,
I wriggle my back, I'm on the glide,
I'm a cocker spaniel just laying back,
My owner built me my own hammock.

This grinning watch-dog is always moving,
Gentle swaying is so soothing,
Ah, life is nice on a summer's day,
Especially with a breeze to aid your sway.

author's note: i saw this happening when i visited
a work acquaintance. She had several cocker spaniels
and they would lay on their backs swaying to and fro
in a hammock----what a sight it was---and the
dogs were smiling

Morning View

I walked my dog today.
And on my refreshing way I met...
1 balding man with the sun reflecting on him,
2 aging ladies with smiling wrinkly faces
3 children running so fast their feet don't touch the ground
4 Springer Spaniels tails wagging, bounding and panting
5 daffodils waiting for the honey bees
6 sparrows darting weaving and teasing my dog
7 oak trees, looming over me and making me nervous
8 sun rays beaming through the lazy cloud
9 leaves swirling, racing to be the first to the ground
10 minutes rest, as I take in the morning view
