I learned to love the river
waves lapping ‘neath our boat
Glint of sun set the scene a-sparkle
as over the waters we’d float
Some days the fish were biting
others, they stayed out of range
No matter the catch, river’s magic
never did papa or me shortchange

Montreal in the Fall
Well, sis, deal with it while bro throws a fit,
I stand, mom fusses with the new dresses,
Bro's frown much bigger, her smile, his trigger,
He stomps to changing. I glide to wearing,
I spin with pleasure. He grabs another,
On to school supplies, mom's past will surprise,
Laptop, iPad end, paper, and the pen,
My bro's ignited, gets mom excited,
Bro ditches his frown, mom gets back her clown,
Mom's costly exchange, bro's sneaky shortchange,
Top brand names he gets, don't worry, dad's cheques,
At Pig's Farm, oh yea, an ice cream cafe,
Kenny acted up. Teasing had buildup,
My names' Evelyn, he says, Evil-Lynn,
Kenny is evil, Evil Ken-evil,
A workaholic, like dad, real quick,
Mom, the careerist, turned "Mommie Dearest,"
Act nice little ones. Twosome meets gruesome,
We all bust, laughing, "Got-cha," we're cracking,
Montreal, we shopped, price and snow, mom opt,
Twas no snow, twas sad, shopped with mom, we're glad.
Long drive and bro's sad, girls spoke French, his bad,
Sorta English, mine's, was deaf, he spoke sign,
Monsters, together, slept on my brother.

The Schedule

A schedule isn’t just to get things done,
But for accomplishment in some sequence;
We begin doing things at the rising of sun,
Some done without thought of frequence.
First on our list should be God’s time alone,
For his guidance on how we should walk.
Thanking Him for blessings and love shown,
And for steering us past each roadblock;
Second is making time for relationships,
For marriage, parenting, and bonding;
That filtered words always pass our lips,
When to others we might be responding.
Third we should schedule time for work,
For work is the means by which we provide;
Not to gain approval or going berserk,
But giving your best that God be amplified;
Fourth, we require time for rest and play,
For we can’t function without adequate rest;
If we shortchange sleep it hinders our day,
And often leaves our bodies feeling stressed.
Fifth we should set aside time for service,
And not forsaking the assembling with others.
For in exalting another God will preserve us,
And made us all to be sisters and brothers;
Author's Note: Recite the following using the rhythm and melody of "Home, home on the range where the deer and the antelope play." The first verse can be used as the refrain:
His income tax structure is strange
Donald will the needy shortchange
The overly rich
Claim their life is a b-i-t-c-h
For them he’ll find bucks on the range
A clear planet earth never smokes
But Trump’s cohorts grim are the Kochs
Where fossils remain
They'll tear into the plain
Fracking rigs are their dirty jokes
There's fat upon Miss USA
The Donald says queen you shall pay!
"For my regal job"
She did painfully sob
"Is rehab a roll in the hay?"
Like buffalo once were so vast
Our middle class was unsurpassed
Now they are the prey
While republicans play
And deny the climate forecast
Don't shortchange our furry friends
Don't sluff-off those feathered ones
Have respect for gills flippers
All are very smart
While we search out ways to kill
While we slander our neighbors
Find new ways to dominate
They think of basics
Yes they only think of life -
How to stay alive each day
As said 'they think of basics'
Only kill for food
Search for food is exercise
Eat sleep and eliminate
These are the simple basics
How to stay alive
When man has devastated
Made a ruin of this earth
A few who follow basics
Will somehow survive
