Country

Called American folk,
country music’s genre
caters to tough big-rig
cross-country truck drivers,
cowboy wannabees and
crooners; the blue-collar
corners of the country.

With President Trump, no country should mess
unless her leaders and citizenry crave hyper-stress

Two weeks in office, he’s reined in three socialist wannabees
Columbia, Mexico, Canada ~ already pleading, down on their knees

And They Leave Us Alone
Wannabees always seem to know
who the really tough guys are
Their carriage indefinable
 though marked by every scar

The pheromones of conquest
 carried by the chosen few
Who rumble through the tallest grass
—swallowing what they chew

Plastic Americans In Cape Town and Elsewhere
In South Africa, we imitate Thanksgiving, even "Black Friday!"
Is it business or American culture-wannabees
I hear awkward Howdys; "How U doing?" Narratives of "space ...customer care"
Just as plastic bags decorate sidewalks, veld, pretty cities. Krag, "power,"
Is out more than "on," and the same for water "Loadshedding,"
One of of very own phrases, as with 'State Capture' by WaBenzi
The newest tribe that found state funds for that German car!...

California Is Burning
California is burning with scorching
blazes that destroy acres of land
and luxurious homes!

It's an Inferno where screams are too loud:
high winds have a wrathful force
and multiply dangers!

It's an evening without a red sunset...
trees fall and birds start fleeing:
beauty will turn into ashes!

Don't be brave, never try to fight a blaze:
escape from this burning hell
and pray for rain again!

Paula is the queen of the witches,
While some are just learning to fly.
Many are brewers of poetic broth,
And I sigh for Halloweens gone by.

There’s only so much space in the dark sky
On this single night of the year.
Some will pick up their brooms and jockey for room
While the rest of us cower in fear.

It’s only the brave or fool hardy
Who join witches on a Halloween.
Some would rather be scared than one who has dared
And then nevermore has been seen.
