Born To Write

"You're born to write", my soul says…
Do I believe her, or doubt!
Writing unwraps deepest thoughts,
Layers of my heart!

Music

Melody from flute
Unwraps my immersed feelings
Senses touched divine
Innermost emotions surge
Cadence fills the air sublime

Lady From Bristol

An old lady from Bristol,
Walks around with a bag of menthol,
She unwraps and licks,
Every time she an answer seeks,
An old lady with a heart like a ball.

Santa Becomes Guest

Christmas eve
door bell rings
Santa peeps

unwraps gifts
children gleam
sunshine snow

reindeer flee
dumped Santa
becomes guest

Newer Haiku

Haiku
  The rose of yesterday
  Has lost allure
Since it was put in a vase

A cypress unwraps
When someone expires
Says the legend

A tulip sways in Dutch pasture
Before being cut
Wrapped in cellophane and sold

Truth Unwraps

My life has been folded over
  at least a hundred times

With twilight comes exposure
  and a reckoning sublime

Each crease a thing I’d never done
each fold a place I’d hide

Now one by one the truth unwraps
 —my secrets open wide

Where Dreams Have Laid

My writing conceals a deeper truth
  than common sense abides

Each word unwraps a higher sense
  than fame or fortune buys

Every breath I take, the future staked
  the moment crowned as King

All beds remade where dreams have laid
  —the present everything

SOFTLY DAWNS THE DAY

SOFTLY DAWNS THE DAY ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Daylight unwraps the hues of the world with an awakening magic. Early morning comes as a promise kept, bringing a sense of serenity, a peace that invited itself into my soul and made itself at home.
softly dawns the day morning's gentle whispers sweet summer's warmth awakes

The Greek Alphabet

In college, my sorority
Required us to learn
The alphabet in Greek,
Which we recited in our turn.

Since then, I’ve used it rarely –
In a crossword clue, perhaps –
As my brain recites those letters
That my memory unwraps.

Lately, though, with Covid’s Delta
And now Omicron’s new streak,
There’ve been many more occasions
To recall my long-lost Greek.

Of Respect

Sweetheart, a cerebral woman I respect
Enchanted by her month when all life awakes
Smiles from childhood lovingly resurrect
Morning dew, tulip scent, warm days, birthday cake

Italian squeaked from mom, in exciting tone
Delay the kisses and gifts till Dad gets home
Sweetheart- unwraps bows in absolute rapture
Yearly this feeling she attempts to capture!

Love you my Sweetheart-

The Breeze

Before the breaking, my heart sees
Something beyond my expertise,

And on unknown sunny shores as these
I find my circumstances freeze,

Feelings that make me ill at ease
Wrapped in a reassuring breeze,

A gust that brings me to my knees,
Playing on my insecurities,

World-weary eyes are hard to please;
The wind on my face disagrees,

Unwraps myself and gently frees
The happiness it guarantees.

Beauty Of Universe Unwraps Soul

Poetry unravels and unwraps my soul in a way
My senses are wildly awake to absorb the sights
and mellifluous sounds of the world reigning my spirit,
My heart opens to the sublime vermillion sky,
To the melody of sapphire waves lapping on the shore,
To the magical harmony of acoustic bird-songs!
My senses are entranced with the chimes of temple-bells,
I am spell-bound, beauty of the Universe becomes mine!

Spherical Exchange

Spherical Exchange Dawn unwraps the sky and wraps up twilight, All birds, plus boats, exalt anointing prime, Colors glossed to their righteous hues, picked time, Advent horizon ere an orb takes height, Chance night favored souls harmoniously, Spheres gift display ceremoniously, Dawn unwraps the sky and wraps up twilight. 2019 October 16 *3rd Place* Make it Seven ~~Joseph May

Nightingale Sings

I am a Nightingale…
singing a song of lavender dreams and hopes, under an ultramarine canvas blending turquoise sky and sapphire ocean,
twilight moon flickering ribbons of love,
my audience - the pearlescent clouds, gleaming stars, souls with a poetic heart!

Whispers of Rain on Christmas Day

The sky unwraps a silver veil,
Each drop a hymn, so soft, so pale,
As rain begins its tender play.

It drapes the earth in crystal lace,
With every bead, a sweet embrace,
A gentle calm on Christmas Day.

The lights reflect in puddled grace,
Like stars descended, face to face,
In every splash, a dream will stay.

Oh, how I love the rain's refrain,
Its hush more pure than caroled strain,
A holy hush where hearts can pray.
