They wanted to be superheroes
They took their inspiration from the beauty and the softness of a flower
and understood their gentleness
and their kindness
is their superpower....

1960 superheroes
arrived inside our grayscale tvs
sporting fringed jackets, leather chaps, and stars on their chests
we knew they were the good guys
the bad guys wore black hats...

From the Depths of Forever
From the depths
   of forever
I cast out my line
Hoping to catch a small fish
  Tasting reality
from a ship in the shadows
I relate to the new dawn
Hearing tales of heroes and superheroes
I laugh, merrily
as light pervades the darkness
and I find a way out
OF THE DEPTHS OF FOEREVER...

Heroes and Villains
I don't want to hurt you
I don't want to hurt myself
where do we go from here?
to nowhere I guess
the superheroes costume
doesn't fit us well
neither does the villain one
neither does anything else.

Trapped in a paradox
of death and life
of bad and good
of left and right
behind the curtains
lives the lie
and we are in the middle
trying to survive.

Jessica...

Nightmare
Unreal it is, just like superheroes
But can sometimes be true.
The image unclear just vague
Like a fish in deep blue water.
Two sides it is, like a coin
The good or bad
You can be sad or happy
Scary or be joyful.
But to die is impossible
To scream is inevitable
Just when I am
About to be crush,
My mama will say wake up Samuel
It’s time for family hour
Ah! It’s just a nightmare....

Perplexed
For yeeeeeeeears I thought someone was gold
More gold plated as I advanced down road
Then it faded...
The gold plated just became a plate painted gold
Things break and have been broken
Most times glue super or not cannot make it brand new
There are moments that I had to realize
What once seemed superhuman was just reality in disguise
Because superheroes get to be human too....

Comic Book Tripper
Dazzled by Superman,
Batman
           and the Human Torch
She walked the streets
    of the city
and was left behind
      by time
She saw the gray urban environment
      and believed that
superheroes should spring
    up
  from behind every door
No Archie here
       just a bleak
landscape
      until riotous colors
explode - leaving behind a fistfull of memories...

Big Truths, Little Lies
I started with superheroes,
Which led me to memes
Then on to fan-art
With superhero themes.
I laughed at a squirrel
Dressed as Thor
I clicked for smiles
I clicked on for more.
My clicks led to quotes
And questions of the heart
And the superheroes faded
And introspection began to start.
Oh the joy of a costume
The bright colored lie
Just a few clicks away from
The truths they belie....

Mom and Dad
I remember the days,
When my mom and dad were superheroes
Everyday, they’d save my world
But now I hear things about them
Things I don’t want to accept as true
But the words won’t leave my system
I remember I asked someone one day
“If I find out about everything, will I end up hating them?”
I looked into their eyes as they said,
“Yes, you will.”
Ever since, I ignore all talk about mom and dad
And I don’t want the day of hating them to come any time soon....

Premium Member Snail Boy and Dalmation
Snail boy brought his sidekick Ruffus with him.
An Illinois Dalmation so tiny, he fit under a whim.
But that does not make sense said my literal cousin Iim.
Who would not know a metaphor if it stopped and bit him.

They are superheroes, right? Asked my strange cousin Kim.
She is always adding on to rumors with doses of vigor and vim.
I did not know what to say, so I hung upside down on an oak limb.
Hoping she would be taken care of by our mutual cousin Jim....
