Substance Abuse
Between the tight spots
of living and wishing
Some find their peace at
the entrance of escape.
It was there in that darkspot
called the bottom, where the
volume is the purest way
of release.
For the moment.
Still, most are still clung to God....

Darkness Is What You Will See
Darkness is what you will see
When you follow the wrong crowd
Life will sadly pass you by
No one will want to come around
Your issues with substance abuse
Will put you on a path of nowhere
Reach out and ask for help
And remove yourself from the bad air...

That Child Really Needs You
That child really needs you
Get your act together
Take care of your responsibilities
Pull yourself from out of the gutter
Putting yourself in a dark situation
Sadly, tears your world apart
There is no call for substance abuse
Just take these words to heart...

There Is Nothing But a Dark Path
There is nothing but a dark path
When a person engages in substance abuse
Your world comes crashing down
There is sadly everything for you to lose
All hope will fade
Nothing ever seems right
Uncertainty looms in every moment
When darkness overtakes the light...

Invisible
They wander through the streets smart;
Aleck. Baldwin wrote about inner
City. Limits to where they can . . .
Openers on the counter of soup
Kitchens. Table manners are lacking
Substance; abuse. Mothers crying,
Babies from womb to grave. Yard
By yard. Stick to being invisible....

Ugly Love
In a certain light
No
It makes no difference
We are so ugly
That I can’t get it up
But
When passion flows
Ugliness goes away
From substance abuse
We do it all night
Get sores, bruises,
Sweat profusely
We explode
In multiples
Orgasmic, and
Afterwards
Ugliness returns
And we are happy....

Vodka and Lime Andaree For Contest
VODKA AND LIME
light and heavenly distilled to silence night
personal dark secret delight
drifting thoughts spinning time
on substance abuse sublime
brain freeze back
lime
Vodka smack
another filtered climb
every poem clothed in rhyme
pure imagination takes to flight
light and heavenly distilled to silence night...

Chemical Malady
Can’t function without it
The conjunctional life
And punctures confounding
A subjugal strife
My endurance depleting
My inevitable fallacies
Determined to beat this
Chemical malady
but
Deep down in the ditch
Is where I feel safe
Weak in the grips
Of insanity’s embrace
You can’t lift me out
Try as you may
Insipid, I pout
Is this where I’ll stay?

Numb
I live in the nothing
And I invite you in
Bring your negativity
With shame for all your sins
I won't judge your faults
or laugh at your mistakes
You can relive your past
Until your now awakes
Join me in the silence
And enter the abyss
Here thoughts are left unchanged
And feelings don't exist
You can leave this sanctuary
and come back at anytime
Knowing you are always safe
In the absence of your mind...

A Valentine Plea
To my relatives and friends, please hear:
No chocolates for the wife this year;
she’s a chocoholic with no excuse,
treats the stuff like substance abuse!
Then there’s the matter of her weight –
my God, she’s wider than her height!
And please no beer, no wine, no liquor,
for alcohol will only bloat her figure.
And dealing with another alcoholic
will only make my life more horrific.
From everything I’ve read, and it’s much,
no chocoholic admits he or she’s a lush.
