Her favorite food was jelly
One day she over indulged
Until her tummy just bulged
She had put too much in her belly...

The rustling trees, the smiling flowers
Like a skylark his words fly higher and higher

Premium Member The Mockingbird's Mistake
A mockingbird sits on my windowsill,
Eyeing the shelly beans I am cooking
He snaps open and shut his sturdy bill
So intent is he in his window peeking,
He fails to see the black cat sneaking.

Enthusiastic
Oh! pretty nature
This is eye-catcher
On the wet, wet grass
There were few dew drops
Shelly and I
Reeling, in pleasure
Selling, our leisure
Rolling, in great measure
This is big pleasure
O, I love this season
It's spring,
This is the reason......

Love has never
let me down...though
people sometimes lose
their way; but no heart
should ever beat long
alone; and no person
should an island deserted stay
--for even
turtles have their Shelly-mates,
and seabirds, their Soaring
Dates…....

Premium Member Mrs Shelly Is Having Difficulty
Ms. Shelly began to write.
Scratched it out.
Began again.
The lights are on, but no one is home.
Scribble Scribble

His dendrite field is nonexistent.
Scratch. Scratch.
She kept writing and scratching
What could she write on this child’s report card?...

Premium Member Fastest Way To a Womans Heart
Shelly had heard of the fastest way to a man’s heart
And she did not doubt if, for it was also the way to hers
She was thrilled when she married a world-renown chef
Not realizing when he came home after work
The last thing he would want to do is cook or bake...

(small revision made line two to make all syllables equal for lines 1, 2 and 5)

A sweet homemaker named Shelly Gorde

with her laundry and cleaning was bored.

She imagined a beach

with a sea within reach.

Rode her ironing board like surfboard.

Premium Member Alligator At the Table
there might be a gator at Sunday’s table.
Don’t act surprised, if you are able.
Why does Shelly always cross-species date?
She wants to prove that she does not hate.
Why do we have to be polite to them?
They are her dates, her beaus, her men.
But a gator? I protesed. Grandma, no!
She would not budge, so I did not go....

Merry Halloween Shelly McQueen sang.
Merry Halloween! Loud, with a bang.
That is Christmas the naysayer said.
He is always a downer; his name is Fred.

Merry Halloween! Shelly McQueen sang out.
This time it was louder, like a giant shout.
Merry is for Christmas, spoke the nasty snot.
He would not know what merry was if it bit him Shelly thought....

Premium Member Would You Like To Try
Shelly sat watching, fascinated.
her great-grandma was quilting.
making the most marvelous blanket.
this is the largest one I’ve ever made, she said.
would you like to take a few stitches?
Shelly nodded. She was breathless.
her great-grandma watched her put the needle in and out.
then she carefully ripped them out and started over.

The Tortoise and Noah
Grumbled at Noah's clarion call
Of the gloomy existence fall.

Started the journey quiet early
Among others so many.

Speed mocked at your gait
As swift animals to the Ark's gate

Creepy slow shelly animal
Bent to the Ark's aisle

Must have been the last
As others animal, you, passed.

Helped by Noah's hands
For heavens ready to purge the
lands....

Premium Member She Never Said Which Bathroom
Shelly had been talked into marrying this guy.
He had money and would take care of her.
She got more nervous as the big day came near.
Money is not love, money is only, well, money.

Her parents kept reiterating how marvelous this wedding was.
They had dollar signs in their eyes which implored her to run.
Shelly excused herself to go to the bathroom.
She never said which bathroom....

Premium Member Cannot Get Stuffed Animals To Dance
Shelly called grandma to furiously complain
I cannot get them to dance, she said with disdain.
Are they not minding you at all? Grandma asked her.
They aren’t even walking, I am pretty sure.

They have to want to dance and perform grandma said.
Maybe they need a nap. Did you put them to bed?
They’ve been on the bed all day, Shelly reported.
But she was happier now, feeling duly supported....

Premium Member The Love Monster
Mommy! Daddy! Mommy! Daddy!
The nightmare was beginning.
Shelly was inconsolable.
There was a monster in her closet.

Mommy was ready this time.
She opened the closet and brought out the love monster
A pink stuffed monster holding a red heart.
“Here she is,” she said “She wants you.”

She put the love monster into Shelly’s arms.
The crying instantly stopped.
This was the end of the nightmare too....

The Poetry of Cancer
THE POETRY OF CANCER
                                                (For Shelly)

My editor says
keep it simple,

so here it is:
you died on Saturday

and your viewing
was Monday.

You were a good poet
but cancer

ate through you
so fast you didn’t have

time

to write a good-bye
poem.

Now here it is Tuesday
and I am

waiting

for an email
that will never

come.

Premium Member Shelly Looks Uppity But She Is Far From It
Shelly looks stuck up but she is far from it.
Many do not know her the least little bit.
Children who visit her see a pure heart.
Her kindnesses to them she’ll gladly impart.

We who do not know her, make judgements fast.
Shelly looks uppity, however, if she knew this she would be aghast.
She has a stern look, imposing, but it does not reflect her soul.
To dine with her on Christmas Eve is a child’s ultimate goal....

Premium Member Shellys World
Shelly sits on the crescent edge of fantasy world
Her hair totally in place, her curls all swirled.
The crescent moon smiles at the cosmos of midnight.
Recognizing that Shelly’s beauty is out of sight.

No one breathes loudly out here in the either.
There are so many important things to say to night’s creature.
I am silent, imagining the world where Shelly lives so happily.
Past the clouds, way too lofty for you and me....
