Sunday birds up early, brightly singing,
resurrecting their refrain -
releasing Sabbath rest
Lead us NOT into temptation
Just deliver copulation
You may think it odd
That we pray to God
But 'tis caused by desperation!
gathered on the lawn at Sabbath - a chattering of starlings
For the Wonderful One Liners Poetry Contest of s. grace
When Jesus went to Venus Mound
He was surprised at what he found
The meat was sweet
But on the street
It sold by kilo, not the pound
I guess we missed chapel again
But rugby is never a sin!
We pray for the ball
If that don't beat all
We pray our opponents won't win!
Gershon was chastising Seth
For being unfaithful to Beth
As high as a kite
Seth swore he'd do right
And his wife was tickled to death!
In church, I sat just behind you
And saw how your discomfort grew
You knelt down to pray
And blew me away
Yet all you can tell me is, "pew"?
The sabbath day is not for snitches
Its just a day to scratch your itches
Go have some fun
Take in some sun
And enjoy Mother Nature's riches!
You know you can't go out to play
For today is the Sabbath Day
You must keep it holy
You can't be their goalie
So go to your corner and pray!
Our neighbour believes God has a plan
A cross on your door will save a man
But COVID-19
Has its own routine
Culling the daft as fast as it can
A Paiute baptised, "Minnie Moons"
Was the thrill of Phoenix tycoons
At Sun City Dunes
With Silver Spoon Prunes
They loved pornographic cartoons
The News was trumpeted from atop Mount Sinai
A Sabbath day of renewal, given to all humanity
Thereon to rest, to refresh -- to recapture Eternity
Allah, Jehovah, and Jesus
Reached a decision to leave us
But the one to go first
Would most likely be cursed
What else could they do to please us?
When the wife bent over downtown
It caused all of the nuns to frown
For - to their dismay -
Right there on display
Was alms for the poor upside-down!
Silhouetted by the sunset
into my window the Sabbath just flew
On wings of angels whom I knew
would depart as our candles were lit
Friday afternoon a Jew's week winds down
His affairs wrapped up before sundown
He puts away his workman's dress
Then dons his finery, his Sabbath best
On this day, you must rest
to pass my Sabbath test
thunders Almighty God
Not to rest’s
a bigger test, (sigh i)
~ as off i nod
Minutes before the Sabbath comes in
but so much undone, almost a sin
Yet time to put the past week away
~ Regroup and pray for better days
The door closes on the past week
No more to strive, to work, to seek
Enter an oasis in time, to reflect and refresh
~ to exalt the spirit over the flesh
Workweek grinds to an end
Holy Sabbath just around the bend
Ring up the last sale, turn the key in the door
Enter a dimension where your spirit can soar
The beauty of the bell.
It chimes on the sabbath.
Echoing through the times.
"Remember ye, to keep the Sabbarh. To keep it holy."
Whether Christian or Jew, we
follow the commands of the Lord.
That one day to miss, we can ill-afford.

The Sabbath has descended on the Holy Land
Seven million Jews ‘midst a miracle in sand
Tonight all look to the sky
to spot missiles aimed at the heart of God’s eye
I can only plead that I am, indeed
A Creature of such Habits
Lose myself to find The Key,
And keep it on the Sabbath!
Illusions trick me, am never free-
Like a Hat pulled from the Rabbit...
Time to pen the last poem of the week
Six days of verse -- enough! It's rest I seek
Time for prayer and praise, and the magic of a peek
At the Sabbath Queen, unveiling Heavenly mystique
