Through frosted, fall night window panes,
a darkened shape in a pine tree,
an owl tall, tufted, stately,
listening for scurrying prey.

Gliding down, slow, whisper-quiet,
mouse stands out on the dusted leaves,
talons grab hold, down comes the beak...
I am lucky to have espied it.

Flaps back hard for the midnight pines,
with one quick bolt it’s had a feed,
regains its perch, at the ready
to stalk the shadows of night times....

When cold breeze loses its charm,
and weather regains back its warmth,
Snow clad mountains that start to melt,
when sun is at its zenith on the belt,

Winters are onto an end !

Heavy quilts lift their veil to bare,
Chilled faces begin to show a flare,
Out of hibernation appears the whole world,
Sun shines bright and the clouds hurled,

Turning home with her hold half full,
Wind picks up  - raging,  all the more
Fierce in its intent to smash her hull
And plunge her deep to the seafloor.

Murderous mountains of watery salt
Filled with cold hatred inside
In their drenching ice-bound assault
Make  kamikaze charges along our side.

Snapping rime-heavy shrouds
Tumbling  the boat in the chill peril;
Overflowing scuppers foaming in anger loud,
As, engine screaming,  she regains her keel....

The ache today is strong.
I thought I saw a glimpse of you.
My mind tells me I'm wrong.

Some days this torture I can bear.
My memories ease the pain.
But soon my heart regains control;
Grief surfaces again.
