The Scars
The scars that tattoo my soul,
were etched by the promises I didn't keep,
all the dreams I put to sleep,
and the emotions I failed to control....

Tamed Dogs of Winter
TAMED DOGS OF WINTER

The unleashed howl and snarl
Of the winter winds
Is silenced at last
And their bite is muzzled
And put to sleep by the
Soothing sunshine of spring...

IN MEMORY

twiggy
was just a cat
a dear friend
of sixteen years
for humans i’ve not shed so many tears

Child of God

she
has been put to sleep
the feline way
so they say
nor was any soul more loved

Riled - Up!
Small and fiesty at first
Tried jumping on couch countless times!
Went to farm; always wishing to be
Mud - splattered and happy
Zipped behind couch
Always loving chase towards the other end
Become ill - and quadraplegic
Had to be put to sleep
Shammi - such a wonderful dauschound...

"Rolled Oats"

Age shall not weary
trolls counting strange fruit
golden apples rolled

Lord Laden put to sleep
on an alter Hippomenes
there Atalanta lights a candle

underneath the dry rot
Ovid’s oracle prophecy not far wrong
3 golden apples racing along

Hippomenes
strange addiction was outshone
the race never to be won

Premium Member Remembering Callie - Queen of Her World
My Calico was chocolate-caramel swirled, The inside of our house was all her world! Her whole concern was just in getting stroked or fed. She'd summon me each morning, jumping on my bed; then reaching out with one white paw, she'd tap my head! An oldie! (This is around the time several years ago that Callie had to be put to sleep due to cancer. She lived 18 wonderful years with us!)

Last Leap
Built by need
Desires kept deep
I gave up my soul
In my last leap

Just a hollow tunnel
My tired body put to sleep
Blocking heartache
In my last leap

Emptiness consumes me
Memories I no longer keep
Rejected by no words
In my last leap

Slain by stupidity
By a mountain so steep
I will die in the desert
In my last leap

Cast me into eternity
I have sewn all I can reap
As happiness rejects me again
In my last leap...

Premium Member Winter Tale - a True Story
WINTER TALE
A true story

abandoned pit bull
his owners have moved away
just an empty house
he’s been left outside to freeze
sits and stares in disbelief

the dog doesn’t know
whether to whine or to bark
decided to bark
he would summon his master
and he loudly pleads for hours

some men come at last
they are from the pet control
neighbors have complained
oh pray he’ll be adopted
not unjustly put to sleep

Premium Member Alone In the Dark
Evening softly pours down from the hills..
The birds quiet , I hear the old dog bark
Another day will soon be put to sleep
And again I will be alone in the dark

The scent of lilac now comes to me..
The breeze gentle as a baby's sigh
The old back porch a haven now
As I prepare myself to say goodbye

Never thinking it would be this way..
So many days without much meaning
Hearing the creak of the rocking chair
Now to the past my thoughts are leaning...

Hemlock
all but one lonely soul
hangs from limbs of tired trees
in a dense forests of hearts,
and endless flow of blood through leaves.
under one sky,
under one moon;
a canopy of hope
set atop a floor of dreary dead,
laid to rest in a damp field of dirt
walked upon by careless feet.
hollowed eyes stop and gaze
to see,
endlessly;
a sea of worried beasts
stomping through a muddy path.
and through the weeds
a breeze shall breath
a quiet call,
and put to sleep
a lonely me....

To One Who Was Never Born
to one who was never born

I cannot fit you amongst dead sisters;
put you to sleep with humming lullaby.

I cannot, for you
have never been born.

Mapping a womb sometimes reveals you,
coiling, illusory and innocent.

Just any womb
carrying a girl.

You seem iridescent midst mother’s warmth;
it means nothing to you, if you may

never be born as
my little sister

whom I have not put to sleep with a song.
