We Are Boxes of Matches
We are boxes of matches,
Some crammed with chances,
Some rattle th last few,
Some too chafed to spark a new flame,
Some crumbled with th rain,

My last matchstick,
I want to strike it for you....

Premium Member To the Girl Who Lost Her Magic Maigc 9
To the girl who lost her magic
biting on quivering lips,
your eyes are so tragic;
In the mirror Fey behind you,
light a fire with that matchstick;
Remember their majesty,
ignore every nonbeliever’s logic;
Power flies in those fingertips,
all wings and gossamer fabric....

The Freeze
January digs deeper into snow drifts.
Chill fingers cripple backbones,
make us walk like matchstick men.
February is just a name we give to tomorrow,
as if we could open that icebox
to see if the sun still rises over un-seeable horizons.
Time drags, then of a sudden, pushes us into snowfields
sprinkled with concrete daffodils....

Holding tight to this confession;
Love is a poison, maddening;
Soft words ignite like a matchstick,
my cocoon explodes in wildfire;

Exhale now your heart’s expression;
Gravity’s heavy;  burdening;
The weight of a smile’s hard to kick;
Sticky situation is dire;

You are so right now I’m homesick;
Lifted, baby take me higher....

Jackdaws
The blackbird takes off from his perch on
this lone pine in the dairy pasture, winging towards the
sky with all his might but
the pine is pugnacious and bitter, sweltering in winter. Before he
travels a league from her she drops him dead from the sky, victim of some
coniferous voodoo, some hex
or lymphoma ending him like a
matchstick....

Lacrimae Rerum
A matchstick made out of a bark
To catch a flame and burn
Creating fire caused by sparks
And burn all things with no return.

A water that washes away stain
But is left rather impure
Water that comes from rain
Makes things obscure

A vulnerably fragile heart
Played with scissors and sticks
Broken into several parts
Wound in every piece you pick...

Premium Member My Final Trick
It's overwhelmingly with sadness, a feeling of sick
That you thought you had control of me like magic
There's no gasoline covering me, put away the matchstick
The emptiness that possesses you is tragic
Your words are just a glass house, mine are the brick
Sails are at full mast, away from you preffering pelagic
I am no magician, but me disappearing will be my final trick...

An Empty Candlestick
An empty candlestick
Wondering alone in the dark
Longing for a spark
In this silent stark

In a lonely corner block
A silhouette in black
Facing neither front nor back
Missing a lit matchstick

A wax candle in hand
Like a cradle being held
A sudden heaven
A scented burn

The form wavy strange
The flame in red-orange
Blew without a wind
For the eye the light to find...

Premium Member Land of Lost Shadows: A Tribute To L S Lowry
land of lost shadows
and unweathered skies.

five urban colours
through unflinching eyes.

tall distant chimneys
and schoolyards at play.

smoke drifting sideways
in stillness each day.

sketches on packets
of stained cigarettes.

strange brooding faces
and marionettes.

people bent walking
with heads looking down

 - if lowry was living
he'd have painted my town....

Ash On the Floor
A plastic smile
He waves hello
To all his friends
He'll never know

Beneath his skin
There lives the sin
Protected by
The hurt within

A silent wish
A crazy thought
How does one kill
A mind distraught?

An answer looms
As dead as leaves
It covers life
In gasoline

A matchstick lit
An open sore
A fire burns
Consumes the core

The pain is gone
Forevermore
When all that's left
Ash on the floor...

Premium Member My Unique Line Is Ps
"Life, fleeting as a matchstick flame"

                         Quoted from my Pantoum Poem:
                                         "Evermore"

This line stands out among others,
as it holds a simple truth.
Life may blaze brightly,
yet lasts but an instant
in the scheme of time,
past, present and future.

Den
I tripped into a foxhole
down
	down
		down
shiny black button eyes beamed
a dime a dozen for your doe-eyed sins
can you call your mother’s name?

Sleek and shining you
see
	me
		bleed
matchstick machete prick my fragile fingertips
I see you’ve laid out traps for me
can you call your mother’s name?

Ember red and raging you push me
up
	up
		up
through the blinding lightning sky
smolder there while I get colder
I’ll tell mother that you called....

Let's start ourselves a fire
And I don't mean the kind
That's started up with kindling
I've something else in mind

We'll build it up real slowly
Until we're toasty warm
Who cares what's going on outside
I want a big snowstorm!!

Each of us a matchstick
We'll strike at the same time
Combine our flames together
And watch the celsius climb

Our hearths aglow in love light
Slow burning firewood
This may just be a long night
But it will be so good...

Ashes of Love
In the coldest zephyr,
I heard your voice as an elegy in the gust of wind

" I am the pen,
 and  you are my ink.
Together,we are the syllables. "

" You are not my wound
  nonetheless
I am your ointment.
  Together, we are healing
each other. "

    "I am the soul
     and your are my breath,
    without heart,
        we are completely dead. "

  " I am the matchstick to be our light in the night
and
 your are my sky,
together,
    we fly to the
    seventh paradise. "...

Skyline
The New York City skyline
Once had visitors impressed,
But now it makes New Yorkers
Feel disgusted and depressed.

For jutting out obnoxiously,
A giant matchstick looms;
It’s a residential building
Filled with billionaire-type rooms.

It is ugly, it is boring
And it’s thrust into our faces
While destroying what was once
The special skyline it replaces.

We all know that its existence,
Though disastrous indeed,
Has been brought about by what
The world gets by on – mostly greed!...
