House Mother
I will never forget
when Mama Lillian said:
In Tanzania we feel joy
to share everything with one another,
even if what we are sharing
is simply our poverty....

In An Old Photograph
My mother was once a playful girl,
so pretty, framed in the laurel bush,
bent in laughter, smile unfurled
for the black box camera, and all the world
an oyster for my pretty mother,
pearl of Georgia, and her sister Lillian,
yet to discover Time takes care
of pretty and playful,and will
attend to it: Black box

It’s my deathbed piano sonata
Fond farewell I say to a lotta
Note: At door there’s a fist--
A bouncer with the list

And turn so gloomy
It's now as dark and I cant manage
Knows even mummy
its all gone
And never to be restored
So the wound

For Lillian
Hidden from the light of stars
there sleeps my darling dead
and every passing day without her
fills my heart with dread
her captivating hazel eyes
they used to shine so bright
I'd give the world to gaze in them
as I fall asleep tonight
but she, a corpse without a grave
and I, a broken soul
I was bound to her and her to me
together we were whole
Now I'm the sun and she, the moon
together we cannot be
for now my darling Lillian
sleeps beneath the sea

(May, 2013)...
