Tata, Sugar

She's done with her favorite sweets, Pies and Lattes.
Now health-conscious, she burns calories with Pilates.

Pumpkin Lattes

Happy pumpkin spice latte season!

Someone said the leaves had turned
to butterscotch, banana, and lemon
but they don’t taste right.

Boho Honeymoon

My mind is filled with pretty things
Thoughts of days with you
Where we can sit by river banks
With nothing else to do
Lavender iced lattes
Lazy afternoons
Listening to The Neighborly
My kind of honeymoon

Paris Cafe

lavender umbrellas
floral teacups
fancy china plates
muffled conversations
dainty berry scones
crisp white doilies
shy looks
wedge of brie
cucumber sandwiches
tiny titters
chocolate truffles
crisp linen tablecloths
caramel lattes
fragrance of the gods

Starbucks

My coffee at Starbucks
(I wanted a small)
Was what they call a“short”
(As opposed to a “tall”).

I don’t like their lingo
A heck of a lot
But their coffee is good
(When it’s strong and it’s hot).

The younger crowd gets
Fancy lattes to go.
My friend and I sit
With a plain cup o’ joe.

Lattes Are Yummy

I'm here to check and see
Your availability

If you'd care to take a ride
If you have the capability

To get out for a while
If there's a possibility

We could hit a coffee shop
And on the way back simply stop

To talk and drink latte
Or sit right there at the café

Let's split a French croissant
Your company is all I want

At Least I Twinkle, Tonight

I feel like a star
cast amongst this ambiguousness
of sky
and I'm hanging on
to vacant air

as all the saplings
and gawkers
slurp on lattes
and wish upon my misery

alas, when one of those whims
chooses to make itself
come true,
I'll shoot like a meteor

into nothing

but a tittle of dust
flickering
in someone else's dream

Gem's Lament

broken strings
on your guitar
no longer get repaired
and rough songs
lay scattered
'cross your room

you're not here
where lattes
where cappuccinos
meshed with your tales
of soul, of sex
and reparations

your dream
came by today
a thirst for those stories
that brought us joy
that brought us tears
clinging to their faces

A Circle of Souls

A circle of souls
Likeminded ladies
Invisible rules
Disqualify me

I’m somewhere in space
Floating alone
Holding a steady pace
Look how I’ve grown

I didn’t need her
Nope, not her either
The pot, they stir
I’m an obstacle beater

It doesn’t matter
At the end of the day
They’re getting fatter
At lunch and lattes

I hustle on
They chit chat
Soon I’ll be gone
No looking back

Distance

Distance

One does not cry
Among professionals
Sipping lattes in Starbucks
But I cannot staunch the flow
When I think of you
So far away from me now

I don’t mean mere physical distance
But that I do not know
What is happening in your life
I no longer laugh with you
Nor share music and stories
As we used to

This is the chasm between us
That has imploded my heart
Today

Consummated

I’m not clever and you’re naïve.
Choices weighed, decisions made,
You can’t fix things if you leave.

It was real but will never again be.
Promises told, futures sold,
You lost your right to call me.

Years of stories and coffee dates
Lattes wasted, love tasted,
Sharing in the demon’s fates.

You picked a side and drew your line.
Lost salvation, no revelation,
Eternally chained to her shrine.

I hope you find what you're looking for.

Dear Coffee

Dear coffee I need him like I need you;
My tears won’t dry they keep running,
heart in ruin I don’t know what to do;

That reflection can’t be who I’m becoming;
All I can taste is the lattes he made me
blended with laughter and music he’d sing;

I see his shadow outside where he would be;
Particles dissolve along with a speaker
collapsing into the taste of discarded coffee;

Not hearing his voice now is too much to bare,
I want so badly for him to be right here.

The Early Autumn Breeze

The early autumn breeze carries with it the first hints of coolness of the coming winter

The green of the summer seems to change overnight to fiery reds, oranges and yellows as the beauty of the Father's creation inspires artists of all ages to set about making their own creations

The leaves begin falling from their lofty heights and gently flutter to the ground as the smell of baked goods, spicey gumbo and pumpkin spiced lattes fill the air with their goodness
