A kingfisher was all of a dither,
When he first saw thick ice on the river'
He cried "Golly-Gee!"
As he dived off a tree
But the impact made every bone quiver
I painted a new bird today
neon pink, flashy blue, marigold yellow
long sharp pumpkin colored beak
God paused and laughed.
His angels grinned.
Best mood ever!
Heaven rejoiced.
The belted kingfisher is a cool dude,
But his girlfriend is even brighter hued.
He's loaded with dazzling features, but
What I like best is his spiky haircut.
A king fisher swooped down
into the silent waters at the noon
a flash of amber and blue
bobbed up sloshing- whoo
a silver fish dangling from its beak
like an ornate pendant, from that creek
brilliant flash of blue
Kingfisher dives in swiftly
fish for its dinner

glisten like tails of watery comets;
oh, but one of them shall so soon perish
as, noiseless, a blue kingfisher plummets!

beyond red roses
Afternoon has come softly
smothered by the summer heat
Oblivious bird
making the most of each day
by still silver lakes
Trills dawn to sunset curtains
purple and wrapped in diamonds
A kingfisher
would like to have no borders,
no moongates.

Sleep not, when

Keen sharp eye sight to own.
Keeps an eye on river.
Knows to catch floating fish.
Kindness lacks for fry too.
Kinetic art to dive.
Kudos in swooping down.
Happy pelican

A duck quacks out on the water

Gentle breeze, reedbeds quiver
Seed heads brush the sky
Golden straw reflects in mirror
Chalk stream slipping by
Dimple disturbs surface shimmer
Trout beneath the willow
Sips small floating black gnat dinner
Eddy's swirling shadow
Kingfisher dives down the river
Orange belly banking
Fleeting flash of turquoise glitter
Picturesque enchanting
I sat down by the river bank
And watched the water flow,
The rapids effervescing
Meanders running slow,
Then past the corner of my eye
A flash of colour sped,
The kingfisher in his splendour
Hunts the river bed.

There was a house.
There is a house.
There was a kite.
There is a kite.

When I
dig the earth
with a spade,
the earth falls into
the spade’s memoir.
The spade falls into
the earth’s memoir.
In the pond nearby,
a blue water-lily
does not fall
into anything.
It
calls out to the kingfishers,
saying,
Come,
have some fish and go.
A brooding mood seeks to engulf my soul
but on the cusp of conquest,
is deflected by memories of nature’s rarest hue...
The sudden glimpse of stunning sapphire in a field of flaxen corn
and soothing balm of lavender’s luxurious scent.
Dragonfly and Kingfisher in burst of aqua flight
darting across the stunned palette of serene summer skies
and azure mirrors of the soul echoing my love.
Sorrow slowly surrenders.
The kingfisher is the diving tip of a rainbow,
a chromatic splinter,
a deadly certainty
piercing sky and water.
All morning it has perched high atop a dead tree.
The sun rose softly (good for fishing),
but now it glares and deflects the eye,
yet
here in this swift instant, a gaudy arrow of light,
plucks a small silver fish out of nowhere,
rises
until it is not even a shadow,
for a harsh sun has already hid it.
