"Lilly-pads and Frogs"....
a little ditty I know -
Karaoke time!!
By: George Aul
For "Lilly-pads & Frogs" contest sponsored by Sidney ~ LeAnn.
I once knew a songster from Skokie
Who was thrown in the Sing Sing pokey
They claimed he was off key
And his voice was croaky
So he killed them at karaoke!
Drawn
To sing
Crowd pleasers
Can quench their need
The karaoke stars take center stage
* For Brian Strand's latest contest, "Five & Twenty".
I enjoy singing karaoke
Lights, music, people, energy
Famous for a few minutes
Choose a song to perform
Take the microphone
Best performance
Others clap
Try it!
Fun
Listen to poem:
River flows, to and fro, in rhyme,
With pebble murmurs keeping time.
Stone edges knocked and bumped smooth,
by restless, rock-roll dancing,
on time-scarred and weathered floors,
with karaoke.
A singer whose name’s Carrie Oakey
Was hoarse, sounding terribly croaky
Carrie burst into tears
When folks covered their ears
She’s thankful her gig was just low key

Do you have a fear of public speaking?
Perhaps you should engage yourself with a little karaoke singing.
Afterwards, if you can look at yourself and laugh,
public speaking should become a less challenging task.
Give us the quick fix
The easy way out
A heady dose of
Instant gratification
And we'll forget about
The intellectual annihilation
Of sixty second news
On BBC Three
Then prime-time karaoke
From deadbeats on ITV
The Man in the Pokey
There once was a man in the pokey.
He was dancing; his movements were hokey.
He jiggled and jumped.
Then fell on his rump.
So he sat there and sang karaoke.

Poetic form: Limerick
I
attempt
to sing a song
hubby covers his ears
says I sound like a cat in pain
so I’ll never attempt karaoke
though I was once head chorister
in a
choir!

I look to the sky
a dark friendly sky
music stilled spotlights fade
I look for stars in the sky
friends offer last hugs
under a cover of clear sky
darkness opens its arms
I embrace a welcoming sky
promises of many tomorrows
whisper an endless sky
poetry has dual purposes you know
evoking emotion, inspiring others to grow
metaphors and similes busy comparing things
sometimes so rhythmic, you can enter a karaoke sing
lines and stanzas showing the reader the way
eliciting sadness or humor in pinks, yellows and gray
Encouraged by the masses
is mediocrity,
like when someone at a bar
sings bad karaoke.
As they belt out notes off key,
we might give guffaws.
Drunken with good will, though,
we offer up applause.
Written Feb. 14, 2016 for the Grook Contest of Silent One
In Catsville,
delighfully fragrant,
a musky moggy croons.
Reverb resounds
as lyrics drift
"Sugar and spice
"and all things mice!"
The Siamese star harmonises
with vociferous vocals
"Gimme Gimme Gimme
a cat stick at midnight".
amid the tender purring
of a somnolent feline.
I have lost control
From just one kiss
Intoxication I can’t resist
Red wine your flavor
Tantalizing lips
Tongue tasting divine
Eyes of alcohol
90 proof
Another kiss I wish
Keep the bar open
I need to come in
Karaoke songs
We sing together
Another round
Two more shots
A home run
Happy New Year!
*
I discovered on this recent New Year's Eve
how many drinks it takes in order to get me
to dance on the bar while singing karaoke.
The amount of drinks I consumed totaled three.
I drink like a girl. Happy New Year to me!
...and to all of you as well most sincerely.
Damn, my head is killing me.
Let's Minichu on Fun
enjoy our vintage wine
let’s drink, toast, sing on karaoke one by one
fall in line!
we can dance, too
tango, rock and roll, twirl as swan
disco!
all here
strong ties won
cheers!
enjoy our vintage wine
tango, rock and roll, twirl as swan
cheers!

I will never fly a plane
Or sail the seven seas
I will never roller skate
Or go down hill on skis
I will never hang glide
Or ride in a hot air balloon
I will never sing karaoke
Because I can't carry a tune
I will never scuba dive
Or climb a mountain high
I know I won't ever do these things
For I won't even TRY
You should not be embarrassed
or shy when sometimes something
embarrassing taints your pride;
it can be a karaoke gone wrong,
a misspelling of a verse in church,
wardrobe dysfunction in a public space....
You should remember that everyone poops-
no need to hide as you get into the toilet;
it's part and parcel of life.
She sighs,
clenches her fists,
and dies...
Again and again,
an incessant drumming
that pounds at almost midnight
uncaring, so loud, too loud
like those awful karaoke singers
who think they can sing,
but of course can't
small parts of her die each time
she takes the time to think
she unclenches her fists
in silence
music lingers
streetlights
shine stars
man and woman
sleeping in shadows
the library’s closed
an intimate voice
on the radio
as I drive home
midnight
the spell is cast
midnight
as I drive home
on the radio
an intimate voice
the library’s closed
sleeping in shadows
man and woman
shine stars
streetlights
music lingers
I keep my dog’s talents all to myself
An organizer, he puts things on a big shelf
Files my taxes, sends them in too.
Taking as a reward my husband’s left shoe.
He sorts my cupboards, and my large pantry.
How much more helpful can a collie be?
Did I mention that he drives me to work and back daily.
And sings karaoke at a place called Goo Gaily.
Ah, such nostalgic nights,
Twirled in skirt, wearing tights,
Music soothed our soul,
We sang along to Rock'N" Roll,
Jiving with our thunderthighs,
Supper, plates of fries,
Our tunes--"Mama Mia" too,
Does Abba mean much to you?
Part of "Kultcha" in our land,
Nostalgic nights, Karaoke band,
Good, clean wholesome fun,
Boomers in our setting sun!
My neighbor Mike loves karaoke
Who sings off-tune a Hokey Pokey;
Grinds he with delight
But it's twelve of night...
Irked, my alarm whips that voice croaky.
